A delegation from the 6th Cross-Straits Meeting for University Presidents visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 25 July. Comprising 80 participants from 22 institutions in Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, the delegation included Jiang Shusheng, Chairman of China Democratic League and Vice-chairman of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, and 20 University Presidents. They are warmly received by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Joseph Sung and CUHK senior colleagues including Prof. Benjamin Wah, Provost; Pro-Vice-Chancellors Prof. Kenneth Young, Prof. Jack Cheng, Prof. Henry N.C. Wong; as well as representatives of Colleges and Faculties.
Apart from visiting CUHK, participants paid visit to several tertiary institutions in Hong Kong and Macau, and met with HKSAR government officials. The visits and meetings provided opportunities for the Presidents and academic exchange heads from the four regions to share their experience in higher education sector. Participants also grasped the chance to establish stronger links with each other, enhancing cross-strait exchange through the activity. The cross-strait meeting was initiated by the Peking University, Nanjing University, Taiwan University and China Democratic League in 2005, and received great responses from a variety of well acclaimed universities in the four regions. The event has been held in Jiangxi, Yunnan, Taiwan, Jilin and Inner Mongolia in the past years and this is the first time it was held in Hong Kong and Macau. |
