2nd Round of Social Service Projects Scheme: Open for Application

The I·CARE Social Service Projects Scheme encourages students to organise and implement self-initiated social services.  Three rounds of vetting are available in this academic year.  Students may submit applications in accordance with the commencement date of their projects and the amount of funds required.  Now, the 2nd round of application is open.  Details are as follows:

Eligibility

CUHK students, student groups or university units (projects must be initiated by students)

Service Nature

Projects could take place in Hong Kong, the Mainland or overseas, but must be of own devising.

Important Dates

Application Deadline : 3 February 2021
Earliest Project Start Date : 20 March 2021

Maximum Funding Approved

HK$20,000 per project

To equip students with competence in rendering social services, this Centre organises training activities every round.  The upcoming one will be rolled out in the form of a sharing session with details below:

Topic : A Journey to Joy - Understanding Children Services
Date : 29 January 2021 (Friday)
Time : 3:00 - 4:30 pm
Speaker : Prof. Ma Lai-chong, Joyce - Professor of Department of Social Work of
    The Chinese University of Hong Kong
    Ms. Chau Po-yi, Aby - Service Director (Play and Playwork) of Playright
    Children’s Play Association
Content : (1) Overview of the characteristics and needs of different children
       groups and the key elements of designing services for children
    (2) How playwork may meet children’s developmental needs
    (3) Experience sharing on implementing social services in times of
       epidemic

In addition to the receipt of funding, training and individual guidance, participants of the I·CARE Social Service Projects Scheme are given chances to take part in the philanthropic work organised by this Centre from time to time.  The latest one was to assist in distributing over 1,100 pieces of child surgical masks, which had been donated by Pro-Medics Group Limited, to two non-governmental organisations in last December for onward transmission to their service users to combat the pandemic.  Beneficiaries included families living in sub-divided flats and asylum seekers.
