1st CUHK International Symposium on Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine

The 1st CUHK International Symposium on Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine was successfully held on 6 December 2011. This Symposium was jointly organized by the Stem Cell and Regeneration (SCR) Program of our School, the Center for Stem Cell and Regeneration, CUHK, Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Faculty of Medicine, The Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre and the Key Laboratory for Regenerative Medicine (The Chinese University of Hong Kong – Jinan University).

Before starting the Symposium, Prof. Fok Tai-Fai, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Chan Wai-Yee, Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences and Center for Stem Cell and Regeneration, and Prof. Chan Kai-Ming of Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology hosted the Opening Ceremony.  A total of 23 experts from China, U.S.A., Taiwan, Singapore, as well as from CUHK presented their latest research discoveries and techniques on various fronts of stem cell biology and regenerative medicine, according to the four sessions, namely "Biology of Tissue Regeneration", "Topics of Regenerative Medicine", "Technological Advancement" and "Translational Medicine Related Topics".  Among these speakers, Prof. Fu Xiao-Bing, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering delivered a keynote lecture on "Wound Repair and Regeneration in China: Focus and Success".  Prof. Kenneth K.H. Lee and Prof. Li Gang, Chief and Deputy Chief of the SCR Program also co-chaired the first and fourth sessions of the Symposium, respectively.

This event not only showcased the commitment and concerted efforts of basic scientists and clinicians in promoting stem cell research and the development of regenerative medicine, but also allowed the participants to benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experience as shared by the multidisciplinary faculty of experts and speakers.
