Over 200 scholars in the field of housing and urban-rural development attended the Conference and around 90 academic reports were published. Prof. Chou Baoxing as a distinguished speaker delivered a talk as a distinguished speaker. Speakers presented papers in the Conference included Ms. Ada Y S Fung, Deputy Director, Hong Kong Housing Department; Prof. Chen Wangheng, Director, International Institute of Applied Aesthetics - The International Advisory Board; Mr. Kai Yan, Vice Director, China Real Estate and Housing Research Association; Mr. Stanley C T Yip, Past President, Hong Kong Institute of Planners and Director of Planning & Development, ARUP China; Prof. Manfredo Manfredini of the University of Auckland; Mr. Chang Kangwei of Department of Urban Development Taipei City Government; and Mr. Lin Tuo of the Institute for Urban Planning of East China.
The Conference provided an excellent platform for both domestic and overseas researchers, practitioners, officials, professionals and students in the field of planning, building technology and facilities, management, real estate, economics and sociology, to share their views and discussed topics on urban housing development in China.
Under the guidance and support of the Science and Technology Committee of MOHURD, the establishment ceremony of Center for Housing Innovations of CUHK together with the First China Urban Housing Conference was held in Beijing in1998. The following conferences were held every one year and a half in Hong Kong, Beijing, Shaoxing, Chongqing and Hefei. The event has become one of the key international academic activities in the area of China housing research.
