The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and BGI (previously known as Beijing Genomics Institute) – Shenzhen, China collaborate to establish the CUHK–BGI Innovation Institute of Trans-omics (The Innovation Institute).  The inauguration ceremony, officiated by Prof. Liu Yingli, former member of the Standing Committee and Executive Vice-Mayor of Shenzhen Municipal Government, President of Shenzhen Entrepreneur Association and Honorary Fellow of CUHK; Prof. Yang Huanming, Chairman and Professor, BGI; Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Mr. Mo Jin-qiang, Deputy Director General of Education, Science and Technology Department of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR; Ms. Guo Yurong, Secretary of Shenzhen Municipal Education Committee and Director of the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau; Prof. Wang Jian, President of BGI; and Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of The Innovation Institute, was held on 18 July on CUHK campus. 

A delegation led by Mr. Huang Shili, Director of Ningbo Education Bureau (NEB), visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 15 July 2011 to learn more about the University and to establish links.

Prof. Zhou Xuhong, President of Lanzhou University led a 4-member delegation to the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on July 12 to strengthen ties and to explore collaboration opportunities.

A Green Summer Camp, hosted by Taiwan Central University (NCU) and co-organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Nanjing University (NJU), was held from 10 to 17 July 2011 in Taiwan. The camp was the first joint student activity under the Cross-Strait Green University Consortium among CUHK, NJU and NCU.

With the aim to promote cultural exchange with Mainland China, Office of Academic Links (China) organized the Summer Cultural Interflow Programme for Mainland Students from 18 to 22 July. A total of 35 students from CUHK and 15 mainland universities took part in the programme.

The 9^th China Urban Housing Conference, co-organized by the Center for Housing Innovations (CHI) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development (MOHURD), was held from 8 to 9 July 2011 on CUHK campus. Guests officiated at the opening ceremony included Prof. Chou Baoxing, Director of the Science and Technology Committee of the MOHURD; Mr. Li Bingren, Deputy Director of the Committee of Science & Technology, Ministry of Housing Urban-Rural Development of the PRC; Prof. Henry Wong, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; and Prof. Tsou Jin-yeu, Director of CHI of CUHK.

Academics in CUHK are cordially invited to attend the 13th China Association for Science and Technology Annual Meeting, co-hosted by the China Association for Science and Technology and Tianjing Government. The theme this year is Innovative Technology and Development of Strategic Emerging Industries. The Meeting will be held in Tianjing from 21 to 23 September 2011.
