Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Chan Wai-Yee, SBS Director and a few SBS members including Prof. Fung Kwok-Pui, Prof. Kenneth K.H. Lee; Prof. Wan Chao as well as representatives of various units of CUHK visited Jinan University, Sun Yat-Sen University and Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health (GIBH), Chinese Academy of Sciences on 28 November 2011 to further strengthen academic collaboration with these institutions in Guangzhou.

During the visit to the Jinan University, our School members including Prof. Chan Wai-Yee, Prof. Kenneth Lee and Prof. Wan Chao witnessed the signing of the agreement on deepening collaboration between CUHK and Jinan University in the Key Laboratory for Regenerative Medicine, Ministry of Education (MOE). The delegates were also briefed on the latest development of the MOE Key Laboratory. Meanwhile, Prof. Fung Kwok-Pui joined another sub-group of the delegation and visited the Sun Yat-Sen University to discuss research collaboration in terms of Chinese Medicine. In the afternoon, the delegates visited the GIBH and Prof. Chan signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Prof. Pei Duanqing, Professor and Director General of the GIBH to facilitate long-term partnerships in research collaboration and the training of research personnel. After signing of the MOU, Prof. Pei extended an invitation to CUHK to send a delegation to represent Hong Kong in the 4th Guangzhou International Conference on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine. Prof. Chan gladly accepted the invitation.

The visit not only further enhanced ties between CUHK and these institutions in Guangzhou, but also allowed our School members to have better understanding of the current development in biomedical sciences as undertaken by these partner institutions, which could in turn deepen the existing extent and scope of collaboration.
