Social Enterprise Startup Scheme: Progress Update

Through training activities, mentorship programme and subsidy from the CUSE Fund, the Social Enterprise Startup Scheme run by this Centre has been encouraging CUHK students and recent graduates to make good use of their expertise to establish or expand their social enterprises.

Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Award Presentation Ceremony of CUSE Fund 2019-20 cum Sharing Session originally fixed in September of last year was re-scheduled for the 13th of this month.  It was conducted via live-streaming drawing an attendance of more than 40 CUHK students and alumni.  Mr. Water Cheung, Senior Partner and CEO, Asia Pacific of StormHarbour Securities (HK) Ltd., officiated at the ceremony and presented awards to the winning teams including 天水圍唱 (Chinese name only), Hot Bath, Gowld Art Centre, and Be/liefThe former three teams were each granted HK$100,000 as seed money whereas the latter team received the Certificate of Merit; all awards serve as a token of encouragement to the teams to continue tackling social issues with innovative and sustainable solutions.  At the sharing session, the moderator Mr. Angus Chau, who is a mentor of this scheme, facilitated exchange between the officiating guest and the awarded teams on kick-starting and running social enterprises in Hong Kong.  Questions raised online were addressed afterwards.

The Social Enterprise Startup Scheme of this academic year will launch its stage 2’s training activities soon with details as follows:

    of TSIC)

Seminar on “Business Planning and Financial Management”

Date : 12 May 2021 (Wednesday)
Time : 7:30 - 10:00 pm
Venue : Room 502, Wong Foo Yuan Building
Speaker : Mr. Gordon Lam and Mr. Angus Chau (both mentors of this scheme -
