CUHK Provost Attends the Annual Meeting of the Association of University Presidents of China

Prof. Benjamin Wah, Provost of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), attended the Annual Meeting of the Association of University Presidents of China (AUPC) from 9 to 10 October and met university leaders in mainland China and Hong Kong.

Heads of participating universities delivered a variety of speeches on the topics related to university education at the meeting.  Prof. Wah gave a presentation entitled "Developing World Class Research for Societal Impact", and shared his experience in university management with participants.

AUPC was founded in November 1997, aiming to enhance linkage and foster academic excellence among member universities.  Members of the Association include Fudan University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Hong Kong University of Science of Technology, Nanjing University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The University of Hong Kong, Tsinghua University, University of Science and Technology of China, Xian Jiaotong University and Zhejiang University.

Annual meetings and Presidents Forums among member universities have been organized since the establishment of the Association.  CUHK organized the annual meeting in 2008 in Hong Kong.  The Association also launched the AUPC Visiting Scholar / Executive Scheme to promote exchange and further academic linkage, Each AUPC member is entitled to nominate one scholar or administrator to visit one of the AUPC institutions every year.

CUHK Organizes the Academic Symposium on Adolescent Mental Health and Disorders 2015 with National Natural Science Foundation of China

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) joined hands with the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) to organize Academic Symposium on Adolescent Health and Disorders on CUHK campus from 28 to 29 October 2015.  Guests officiating at the opening ceremony included Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Mr. Zou Liyao, Director of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Office of NSFC; Mr. Ji Jianjun,  Deputy Inspector of Department of Education, Science and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR; and Mr. Li Nai Yiu, President of Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre.

The two-day symposium attracted a record high of more than 170 participants.  Over 50 scholars and postgraduate students came from mainland China for the event.  A total of 29 presentations were delivered from scholars of mainland China and local universities, including the University of Hong Kong (HKU), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  Prof. Lu Lin, Director of Peking University Sixth Hospital and Prof. So Kwok Fai, Chair of Anatomy in the Department of Ophthalmology of HKU and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave keynote presentations on the first day of the Symposium.

The event provided a platform for intellectual exchange between scientists on the mainland and Hong Kong, stimulating thoughts and ideas to strengthen the research development in adolescent mental health as well as cross-disciplinary research areas, while exploring collaboration opportunities.  Details of the symposium can be found from our official webpage via the link below:http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/oalc/nsfc2015/.

Since 2007, CUHK and NSFC have co-organized annual academic symposium with different themes. Previous topics included Bio-informatics and Its Applications, Chemical Biology, Condensed Matter and Optical Physics, Developmental Studies in Health and Diseases, Control and Automation, Climate Change, Digestive Disease and Big Data. CUHK Vice-Chancellor Delivers Keynote Speech in Ningbo-Hong Kong Education Co-operation Forum 2015

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) participated in the Ningbo-Hong Kong Economic Co-operation Forum 2015 jointly organized by the Ningbo Municipal People's Government and the HKSAR Government. The event was held in Hong Kong from 12 to 14 October. Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK attended the Ningbo-Hong Kong Education Co-operation Sub-Forum on 14 October and delivered a keynote speech on Education and Modern City. Prof. Poon Wai-yin, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, attended the Opening and Welcoming Ceremonies of the Ningbo-Hong Kong Economic Co-operation Forum on 13 October.

Hong Kong and Ningbo have taken turns to hold the Ningbo-Hong Kong Economic Co-operation Forum since 2002.  CUHK has been making efforts in collaboration with academic and research institutions in Ningbo to expand the scope and level of exchange to achieve greater impact in education and research.

CUHK Holds Workshop on Re-viewing Taiwan: Regional Developments in a Global Frame

The Taiwan Research Centre under the Research Institute for the Humanities of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) hosted the "Re-viewing Taiwan: Regional Developments in a Global Frame" Workshop from 22 to 23 October.  The workshop was co-organized by the Collaborative Innovation Center for Peaceful Development of Cross-Strait Relations, Taiwan Research Institute of Xiamen University and Institute of Global and Public Affairs, Faculty of Social Sciences in University of Macau.

The two-day workshop aimed at addressing issues ranging from cross-strait relations, Taiwanese arts, literature and history, to institutional and intellectual developments of the region from trans-regional and interdisciplinary perspectives.

Seventeen participants from different parts of the world attended the workshop.   The Taiwan Research Centre of CUHK signed an agreement with the Collaborative Innovation Center for Peaceful Development of Cross-Strait Relations, Taiwan Research Institute, Xiamen University in July 2015, to cooperate in related areas of Taiwan research.
