Vice President of NSFC Visits CUHK
Prof. Liu Congqiang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Vice President of National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 1 June. Prof. Liu met with Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, discussing a variety of issues concerning the academic links between Hong Kong and mainland China, and learning more about the University's research development.
During his visit, Prof. Liu also had meeting with Prof. Leung Ping-chung, Director of State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in West China (Partner Laboratory in The Chinese University of Hong Kong); Prof. Wong Chun-kwok, Director of Institute of Chinese Medicine; Prof. Christopher Cheng, Director of Shenzhen Research Institute (SRI); and Prof. Walter Ho, Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer to share ideas of research collaboration. He was next led to visit the State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in West China (Partner Laboratory in The Chinese University of Hong Kong).
CUHK has been collaborating closely with NSFC. Apart from the annual academic symposium on various themes since 2007, CUHKSRI has obtained research grants for over 160 projects since 2011. This visit contributed to enhance communication between CUHK and NSFC, expanding the scope of further collaboration.

Director of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs of MOE Visits CUHK
Dr. Liu Jin, Director of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Office of the State Ministry of Education (MOE), led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 21 June. During the visit, she learned the recent developments of CUHK's academic linkages with mainland China from CUHK members, including Prof. Dennis Ng, Associate Vice-President; Prof. Kenneth Lee, Associate Director of MOE Key Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine and Prof. Wan Chao, Assistant Director; and Mr. Raymond Leung, Director of Student Affairs.
At the meetings, both sides discussed such issues as student activities, joint research, curriculum collaboration between CUHK and mainland partners. The delegates also visited the MOE Key Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine and learn about research collaboration between the two regions. Through this visit, the delegation developed a deeper understanding of the University, further enhancing communication for partnership development and new collaboration to grow.
The State MOE has been supporting CUHK and Hong Kong tertiary institutions to launch collaboration projects with mainland China. Currently there are three MOE Key Laboratories in CUHK, focusing efforts in high confidence software technologies, human-centric computing and interface technologies, as well as regenerative medicine. The two joint research centres in the University in historical anthropology, and Chinese linguistics and applied linguistics established with Sun Yat-sen University and Beijing Language and Culture University respectively are the only two research extension units at national level in humanities and social sciences in Hong Kong. MOE launched the Ten Thousand Student Interflow Programme in 2013 to encourage Hong Kong students to conduct experiential learning activities on the mainland. Over 7,000 CUHK students and staff have been sent under the scheme since 2013.

Members of IAF Explore Collaboration Opportunities with CUHK
Members of the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) formed a 10-member delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 29 June, during which they met with Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Lin Hui, Director of Institute of Space and Earth Information Science; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) to know more about the University's research development.
Among the delegates are Prof. Otto Koudelka and Mr. Yu Dengyun, Vice Presidents of IAF; Prof. Christian Feichtinger, Executive Director of IAF Secretariat; Mr. Wang Yiran, Secretary-General of Chinese Society of Astronautics; and a few professors from the Ohio State University. They discussed ways to develop collboration on space technology with CUHK members during the meeting, which also helped to enhance communication and exchange, fostering future plans of partnership establishment and the launch of new collaboration projects.

Researcher of CASC Shares Research Insights in CUHK Space Technology Seminar
Mr. Dong Yaohai, Researcher of Shanghai Academy of Spaceflight Technology (SAST), China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), gave a talk to members of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and of the public during his visit to the University on June 30.
In his talk titled "China's Meteorological Satellites and Their Applications", Mr. Dong talked about his life as a scientist, sharing his research insights and the latest technological developments in relevant fields with the audience. He also met with Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Lin Hui, Director of Institute of Space and Earth Information Science; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) to exchange ideas on scientific research.
