The plaque-unveiling ceremony of the Key Laboratory of High Confidence Software Technologies (Sub-Laboratory, The Chinese University of Hong Kong) was held on 15 December. Approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE), the laboratory was established in the Faculty of Engineering of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Officiating at the ceremony were Mr. Ming Ju, Director of Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education; Prof. Lin Jianhua, Executive Vice President and Provost of Peking University; Mr. Cao Guoying, Associated Counsel, Department of Education, Science and Technology, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR; Prof. Yue On-ching, Science Advisor, Innovation and Technology Commission of HKSAR; and Prof. Henry Wong, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK.
Scholars in CUHK and from Peking University have been collaborating for years in the area of high confidence technologies. The establishment of the Key Laboratory on High Confidence Software Technologies signified a deeper collaboration recognized by the MOE in partnership development of this research between the two universities. In his opening remarks, Prof. Henry Wong stated that the laboratory is a milestone for the collaborative efforts of the two universities in the National 863 Project. The establishment will further enhance the partnership of CUHK and Peking University, which also keeps with the innovative aspirations in research collaboration pertaining to the Long-term Education Reform and Development Plan promulgated by MOE. Prof. Wong Kam-fai, Associate Dean (External Affairs) of Engineering, and Professor of Department of Systems Engineering & Engineering Management has been appointed Director of the laboratory.
