The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Scholars Visit Program was staged in its fourth year in The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from 17 to 20 March 2015. Under the program, scholars of CASS are invited to visit CUHK each year and deliver public lectures to forge academic exchange in the humanities and social science. The program presents a valuable opportunity to build bridge between CUHK and CASS in terms of high-level research exchanges, paving the way for further collaboration.
The delegation of CASS this year comprised three prominent scholars including Prof. Yang Yiyin from Institute of Sociology, CASS; Prof. Ni Pengfei, Director of Global Urban Competitiveness Research Centre, CASS; and Prof. Li Aijun from Institute of Linguistics, CASS. The scholars were warmly welcomed by CUHK senior members including Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-President; Prof. Gordon Cheung, Associate-Vice-President; Prof. Leung Yuen-sang, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Prof. CY Chiu, Dean of Faculty of Social Science. Visits were paid to the Departments of Linguistics and Modern Languages, Geography and Resource Management, Sociology, and Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies for academic exchange in relevant research areas and discussion of collaboration opportunities.
During the visit, the scholars delivered 3 public lectures in the Lecture Series by CASS Scholars. They shared their expertise and views at the cutting edge of their chosen fields in sociology, linguistics and geography and urban planning. Over one hundred of scholars and students from CUHK and other universities as well as from the general public were attracted to the lectures.
