Delegation led by Party Secretary of Peking University

 

A 13-membered delegation headed by Prof. Zhu Shanlu, Party Secretary of Peking University visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 27 May 2013 to strengthen partnership between the two universities. Delegation members included Prof. Wu Zhipan, Executive Vice-President and Prof. Li Yansong, Vice-President of Peking University.

 

The delegates were warmly received by Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Francis Chan, Dean of Medicine, Prof. Tony Chung, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; and Prof. William Wong, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Meetings were held to discuss the latest development of the collaboration projects between the two universities. The delegation next visited the Arts Museum and the Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of High Confidence Software Technologies (Sub-Laboratory, The Chinese University of Hong Kong).

 

During the visit, a collaboration agreement between the Faculty of Medicine of CUHK and Health Science Center, Peking University was signed to further consolidate academic cooperation. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for both universities to exchange ideas and strengthen ties.

Chancellor of University System of Taiwan Visits CUHK

 

Prof. Ovid Tzeng, Chancellor of the University System of Taiwan led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 2 May 2013. The purpose of the visit was to discuss collaboration opportunity in language and human complexity among Taiwan Academia Sinica, Peking University and CUHK

 

Meetings were held among the academic members from Taiwan Central University, Taiwan Normal University, Academia Sinica and Peking University. CUHK warmly welcomed the delegates who met with Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Leung Yuen Sang, Dean of Faculty of Arts; and representatives from the departments of Psychology, and Linguistics and Modern Languages. Discussions were started on how to collaborate according to individual academic strengths.

 

The visit enhanced understanding and further bolstered the linkage to scale collaboration project with specific plans.

Visit of Mr. Li Jiheng, Governor of Yunnan Province

 

Mr. Li Jiheng, Governor of Yunnan Province led a 70-member delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 8 May 2013. The aim of visit was to learn more about the development of CUHK and establish close links.

 

The delegation met with Prof. Ching Pak-Chung, Acting Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Xu Yangsheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; and Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor to have an overview of the recent development of CUHK. The delegates paid visit to the School of Biomedical Sciences where they met with Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences and representatives of the School to obtain knowledge of its latest research projects and to explore possibility for further collaboration.

 

During the visit, letters of intent were signed to strengthen ties, which included collaboration on executive training program and the participation in Academicians Workstation.

 

CUHK has been maintaining continuous links with the Provincial Departments and academic institutions in Yunnan. Senior officials from Science and Technology Department and Education Department of Yunnan had paid several visits to CUHK before. Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK led a delegation to Yunnan in June 2012 and collaboration agreement was signed with research organizations and Provincial Science and Technology Department to forge collaboration during the visit. The visit paid by Governor Mr. Li Jiheng further foster linkage development in academic exchange.

Visit of President of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics

 

Prof. Fan Liming, President of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 21 May 2013 to explore the possibility in expanding collaboration between the two universities.

 

The delegation was warmly welcome in CUHK. Prof. Benjamin Wah, Provost; Prof. Leung Yuen-sang, Dean of Faculty of Arts; Prof. T.J. Wong, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration; Prof. Robin Huang of Faculty of Law met with the delegates to update each other the progress of current collaboration projects and discuss the possibility of scaling new projects. The meetings and discussions enhanced understanding and paved the way for further collaborations.

Visit by Vice-President of Southeast University

 

A7-member delegation led by Prof. Huang Dawei, Vice President of Southeast University visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 9 May 2013.

 

The delegation was received by Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Prof. Fung Tung, Associate-Pro-Vice-Chancellor; and colleagues of the Campus Development Office and the Estates Management Office. CUHK representatives gave a brief introduction of the recent development of CUHK, particularly on estates management and the work of environmental sustainability of the University. The delegation next visited the relevant energy-saving facilities on campus. The visit provided a chance for both parties to enhance understanding and nurture friendship.

Delegation from Ningbo Education Bureau

 

A delegation led by Mr. Sun Jianmin, Deputy Director of Ningbo Education Bureau (NEB), visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 15 May 2013 to strengthen links.

 

The delegation was warmly greeted by Prof. Gordon Cheung, Associate-Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Ms. Candice Lam, Secretary of Shaw College and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China). CUHK representatives introduced the recent developments of the University and its student exchange projects with Ningbo University. Mr. Sun expressed that NEB would offer its strong support to facilitate the University's collaboration and research work in Ningbo.

 

The delegation gained knowledge of the development of CUHK and the visit built stronger links between the two parties.

Other Important Visits

 

- Prof. Ni Pengfei, Director of Center for City and Competitiveness of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences visited CUHK on 21 May 2013. He met with Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Director of Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies (HKIAPS), as well as other scholars from HKIAPS for academic exchange.

 

- A 33-member delegation organized by the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce visited CUHK on 22 May 2013. Members of the delegation included representatives from Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and State Council. The delegation met with Prof. Michael Hui, Pro-Vice-Chancellor to understand the development of the University.
