CUHK-SYSU "2018 In search of Cantonese" was held in Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) from 2 to 4 November 2018. Professor Tang Sze Wing, Department Chairman of Chinese Language and Literature led a group of 20 students to participate in cultural exchange on Cantonese languages.
During the event, students from the two universities exchanged views in humanities and history of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area and shared knowledge in Chinese languages and culture. They also attended the lecture "Language and Culture Originated from Guangdong and Hong Kong" presented by Professor Peng Yuping, Department Chairman of Chinese of SYSU. Apart from attending lectures, students from CUHK also visited The former residence of Sun Yat-sen to deepen understanding in urban culture and customs of Zhongshan.
Since the establishment of partnership in 1981, CUHK has been in close partnership with SYSU in a wide range of projects including research collaboration, academic programmes and student exchange. The CUHK-SYSU Partnership Steering Committee was established in 2008 to oversee the collaboration. Both universities joined hands with the University of Macau to initiate the establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance in November 2016 with the aim of forging exchange and cooperation by consolidating resources of elite universities and nurturing talents. The event, "CUHK-SYSU 2018 in search of Cantonese", effectively forged exchange between students from CUHK and SYSU via experiential learning activities and enhanced students' understanding in Chinese language and culture.
