Dear students,

The North Korea nuclear crisis, the tragedy in Myanmar's Rakhine state, the mass shooting in Las Vegas and the spate of terrorist attacks in Europe etc. have refueled debate on whether more stringent measures should be taken to tackle military hegemony and gun violence.  It seems that to stay at peace through diplomatic channels and pre-emptive moves will no longer be a prime choice.  Nonetheless, could working on the matter itself solve the problem at its root?  I believe many of you will find education, in a broad sense, has a big part to play…… because it deals with one's mind.

Social Service Day: Recruitment of Organising Committee Members

This Centre is going to organise a Social Service Day in March of 2018.  A whole-day programme, this Social Service Day is titled "Playing a University Student for a Day".  A group of secondary school students in the district nearby will be invited to visit CUHK and get an experience of university life.  Elderly people will be partners of our students to carry out the programme.


I·CARE Community Research Scheme 2017-18: Recruitment of Members

Aiming to deepen students' understanding of the deprived communities, and to guide them to explore ways of civic participation through in-depth studies, the I·CARE Community Research Scheme 2017-18 is now calling for participation in two small-scale research projects, namely, the Ma On Shan Community Development research, and the Elderly-friendly Housing research.

"The 13 Things Learnt from the Adventure of a Perplexing Youth" under University Lecture on Civility 2017 was successfully completed.  In view of the charisma of the speaker Prof. Lung Yingtai, the quota for online registration was fully filled at the very beginning.  Many people were forced to choose standing beyond the Amphitheatre of New Asia College to hear Prof. Lung's talk.


I·CARE Campus Tour - Telling CUHK Stories: Successfully Finished

CUHK is well known for its spectacular scenery.  Overlooking Tolo Harbour, our verdant campus has indeed many historical stories behind.  As such,this Centre has continued running campus tours (altogether six times) emphasising on the social and civic engagement of the University community over the past decades.  The tours were led by eight professional student tour guides using either Cantonese, Mandarin or English.


New I·CARE Trailer

A new version of I·CARE trailer was released this month.  Students and alumni who participated in the shooting include: Miss Ng Hoi Ying (year-4 student of Bachelor programme in Urban Studies), Mr. Wong Yuen Cheuk (year-5 student of Bachelor programme in Medicine), Mr. Wong Chung Chak (graduate of Master programme in Nursing Science), and Miss Yip Hiu Wai (graduate of Bachelor programme in Sociology).
