The Academic Symposium on Adolescent Mental Health and Disorders 2015
|
With the coordination and support of the Office of Academic Links (China) (OALC) and the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) successfully co-organized the Academic Symposium on Adolescent Mental Health and Disorders 2015 on 28 and 29 Oct 2015.

School of Biomedical Sciences Postgraduate Research Day 2015
|
With the collaborative efforts of the Organizing Committee of the SBS Postgraduate Research Day 2015, the SBS Postgraduate Student Association (PSA) and the Graduate Education Office, the SBS Postgraduate Research Day 2015 was successfully held on 12th and 13th November 2015. This annual flagship event has been serving as an excellent platform for our postgraduate students to share their achievements with their peers and supervisors since the establishment of the School six years ago.

Officiated by Prof. Benjamin W. Wah, Provost of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK); The Honorable Mrs. Fanny Law Fan Chiu-fun, GBS, JP, Chairperson, Board of Directors, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation; and Prof. Tony F. Chan, President of the Hong Kong Institution of Science (HKIS) and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and with the support of the School of Biomedical Sciences, CUHK, the 23rd Annual Conference of the Hong Kong Institution of Science (HKIS) was successfully held on 5 December 2015 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

SBS Christmas Party 2015
|
Co-organized by the SBS Postgraduate Student Association and the General Office of the School, the SBS Christmas Party 2015 (the Party) was successfully held on 11 December 2015 at the Lo Kwee-Seong Integrated Biomedical Sciences Building. About 300 teaching and non-teaching staff members, postgraduate students and invited guests participated in the Party.

Launch of the New BSc in Biomedical Sciences Programme
|
The proposal of the Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Biomedical Sciences Programme of the School of Biomedical Sciences was approved by the Senate on 9 October 2015. The new BSc Programme is the first undergraduate programme offered by SBS and the first cohort of students will be admitted in the academic year 2016-2017.

Orientation Day for Undergraduate Admissions 2015 and Press Conference for the BSc Programme in Biomedical Sciences
|
Same as the previous year, the School of Biomedical Sciences participated in the Orientation Day for Undergraduate Admissions on 24 October 2015.

Participation in the Teaching & Learning Innovation EXPO 2015
|
Similar to previous year, members of our Teaching and Learning (T&L) Unit including Dr. Isabel S.S. Hwang, Dr. Rebecca K.Y. Lee, and Dr. Florence M.K. Tang participated in the Teaching and Learning Innovation EXPO 2015 (EXPO 2015).

Participation in 2015 CUHK Alumni Homecoming
|
The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) participated for the first time in the annual CUHK Alumni Homecoming held on 28 November 2015 by hosting a carnival booth at the University Mall.

Seminar on Animal Experimentation and Ethics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong
|
To reinforce the concept of proper and ethical usage of animals in biomedical research and the associated experimentations, our Graduate Education Team and the Core Laboratories Team once again coordinated with the Laboratory Animal Services Centre (LASEC) of the Faculty of Medicine to organize a seminar entitled "Animal Experimentation and Ethics at CUHK" on 23 October 2015, as part of the lecture series for postgraduate students at the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS).

Prof. Alfred S.L. Cheng, Associate Professor of the School, has been selected for the "Young Researcher Award 2014" of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Fung Kwok-pui being awarded Emeritus Professorship
|
Prof. Fung Kwok-pui, Associate Director (Administration) of our School, was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor by The Chinese University of Hong Kong with effect from 1 August 2016, in appreciation of his lifelong and outstanding contributions to the University.

Following the previous visits on 11 Dec 2012 and 5 Sep 2014, a group of 40 secondary students from the Independent Schools Foundation (ISF) Academy visited the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) again on 4 September 2015.

Coordinated by the Office of Admissions and Financial Aids (OAFA), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), a delegation of 40 representatives of the key middle schools from 16 provinces in the mainland China visited the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) on 2 December 2015.

An eight-person delegation led by Prof. Wasna Sirirungsi, Dean, Faculty of Associated Medical Sciences, Chiang Mai University, Thailand, visited the School of Biomedical Sciences on 7 December 2015.

Led by Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), a delegation comprising Prof. Wan Chao, Associate Professor, Prof. Jiang Xiaohua, Assistant Professor and Prof. Kok Hon-lung, Research Assistant Professor, as well as 19 postgraduate students and research staff of the School, participated in the "Guangdong – Hong Kong Postgraduate Research Exchange and Symposium on Regenerative Medicine 2015" at Jinan University, Guangzhou, China on 15 and 16 December 2015.

16 members of the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) including Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of SBS, Prof. Wan Chao, Prof. Feng Bo, Prof. Albert H.H. Cheung, as well as postgraduate students and research staff, attended the 8th Guangzhou International Conference on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine and the 4th Annual Conference of Chinese Society for Regenerative Cell Biology held on 18 and 19 December 2015 in Guangzhou, China.

Third Director's Cup - SBS Badminton Tournament
|
As an annual sports event of the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), the third Director's Cup - Badminton Tournament was organized by the SBS Postgraduate Student Association (PSA) on 17 October 2015, which was full of excitement and laughter.

Dr. GU Shen Linda, Ph.D. graduate (2013) received the Outstanding Postdoctoral Award by the Association of Chinese Geneticists in America (ACGA)
|
With her research abstract entitled "Mechanistic Insights of Complex Insertional Translocations", Dr. Linda S. Gu was selected for the Outstanding Postdoctoral Award by the Association of Chinese Geneticists in America (ACGA). She was presented with the award at the ACGA 2015 Annual Meeting held on 9 October 2015.

Dr. HU Fan, Ph.D. Graduate (2012)
|
Dr. HU Fan obtained her Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 2012 under the supervision of Prof. Fung Kwok-pui. After graduation, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the School of Biomedical Sciences, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is currently working as an Associate Professor in the School of Biotechnology and Food Engineering, Hefei University of Technology, Anhui Province, China.
