Overseas exchange and internship programmes help develop students' global vision. It is the reason why CUSCS endeavors to provide students with a wide range of overseas and mainland exchange and internship opportunities. This summer, a number of our students spent their holiday in various parts of the world to broaden their horizons, to gain working experience and to enrich their lives.

JCI Shadow Innovative Entrepreneur 2012 |
Five students of the Higher Diploma in Professional Accounting, namely Wong King-hung, Li Lai-shan, Nie Zhijian, To Ka-chun and Lau Wang-yam, won the 2nd runner-up award in "JCI Shadow Innovative Entrepreneur 2012" held on 29 September.

Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards 2012 |
Congratulations to Mr. Huen Siu-chan, part-time instructor in Chinese Calligraphy, and Dr. Chui Pui-chee, course coordinator in Art, Music & the Humanities! They were awarded "Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards 2012" (HKCAA), one of the largest open art competitions in Hong Kong presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and organised by the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Mr. Huen Siu-chan was one of the ten awardees of the HKCAA, and Dr. Chui Pui-chee won one of the two "Young Artist Awards".

HD Student Won the Silver Award in MTR App Talent Quest Competition |
Lai Wing-hei, a student of Higher Diploma in Multimedia and Creative Advertising, teamed up with her friends in other institutes and won the Silver Award in the Tertiary Group (Local) of MTR App Talent Quest Competition.

CUHK Golden Jubilee Marathon Team |
To
celebrate its 50th anniversary, CUHK will form its Golden
Jubilee Marathon Team to participate in the Standard Chartered Hong
Kong Marathon 2013. All CUSCS students, staff, alumni and friends are
welcome to join the team and each member will be given a limited-edition

Inauguration Ceremony of Continuing and Professional Education Centre in Shenzhen cum Agreement Signing Ceremony between CUSCS and UTSCS |

Continuing and Professional Education Centre (CPEC), Shenzhen Research Institute, The Chinese University of Hong Kong held its inauguration ceremony on 10 October. A variety of professional, general and distance learning programmes will be offered by the School of Continuing and Professional Studies, CUHK (CUSCS) and the Shenzhen Research Institute. These programmes are taught by dedicated lecturers of CUSCS and the course contents are specially designed for learners in Shenzhen and neighbouring areas. Guests officiating at the ceremony included Prof. Hau Kit-tai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, Mr. Jiang Shaoping, Assistant to Director of the Shenzhen Research Institute, Dr. Ella P. O. Chan, Director of CUSCS, Dr. Fowie Ng, Chairman of Committee of CPEC, and Ms. Marilynn Booth, Dean of University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies (UTSCS). Other distinguished guests included representatives from industrial partners of different sectors, e.g. medicine, health care, information and technology, etc. It also attracted reporters of more than 10 media from Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

The "Lifelong Learning for Self Enrichment" Seminar Series |
The "Lifelong Learning for Self Enrichment" Seminar Series held in Continuing and Professional Education Centre (CPEC), Shenzhen Research Institute, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, presents a series of public lectures. Mr. Dick M. K. Lee, Former Commissioner of Hong Kong Police Force, delivered the first seminar titled "Enhance Your Leadership Skill to Build an Effective Team" on 21 September.

CUSCS Organised the 1st Korean Teachers' Training Seminar |
Korean Language Education and Culture Centre (KLECC) was proud to be the organiser of the first Korean Teachers' Training Seminar in Hong Kong. The Seminar, which was held on 11-13 September at Central Learning Centre, was sponsored by The National Institute of the Korean Language and was attended by more than 60 Korean teachers from more than 10 Korean schools and institutions in the territories.

Academic Staff Retreat |
CUSCS Academic Staff Retreat 2012-13 themed "Team Building through Moments of Self and Team Reflections as Educators at CUSCS" was successfully held on 7 September at Breakthrough Youth Village. We were privileged to have Dr. Ella P. O. Chan and Dr. Raymond C. W. Ng as our facilitators. A total of 85 heads, support staff and teaching staff participated in the event.

A New Chapter Begins |
A new school year for full-time Higher Diploma Programmes commenced on 24 September. Our students are ready to face another challenging but fruitful year. CUSCS' brand new Tseung Kwan O Learning Centre opened when the school term started. The 6-storey building features a variety of function rooms including Lobby, Guest Room, Suite and Bar & Restaurant in a Mock-up Training Hotel, Sewing Workshop, Fashion Project Room and Paper Pattern Drafting Room catering to Fashion Design students. Other fully-equipped facilities include Language Laboratory, Language Learning Enhancement Centre, Computer Laboratory, Resources Centre & Mini Library, Learning Common and Lecture Theatre etc. Students will certainly thrive in such a pleasant learning community.

Warm Welcome to New CUSCS Members: New Students in the Higher Diploma & Top-up Programmes |
The Higher Diploma Programme's Inauguration Ceremony and Orientation was held at the Sir Run Run Hall, CUHK on 12 September, attended by more than 1,400 new students. Prof. Joseph J. Y. Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, and Dr. Ella P. O. Chan, Director of the School, officiated at the ceremony. In the orientation programme that followed, Mr. Hung Chung-yam, Team Manager of the Hong Kong Cycling Team, London Olympic Games, shared with students his challenging and rewarding experience of being the former Hong Kong chief cyclist.

Dr. Ella P. O. Chan, Director of the School, welcomed around 100 new students at an orientation camp held at Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong Lion's - YMCA Junk Bay Youth Camp on 5-7 September.

15 graduates of the Diploma Programme in Watercolour Painting (Cycle 11) held their graduation exhibition on 14-16 September at Hong Kong City Hall. Dr. Ella P. O. Chan, Director of the School, officiated at the opening ceremony.
