CUHK Hostname Service was originally provided to translate an IP address to a hostname for remote file management and computation among PCs. Nowadays with a rapid change of technology, cloud services become popular for remote file management and computation.

In view of a decreasing usage, we will terminate this service on 2 May 2016. The hostname applied before (alias.idv.cuhk.edu.hk or alias.cuhost.cuhk.edu.hk) would become invalid on that day. Users of CUHK Hostname have been informed through individual mass mails in early Apr.

Users may consider adopting the following alternatives after the service termination.

• Free Cloud Services
  Users could switch to free cloud services for files / information uploading, accessing and sharing, such as Microsoft OneDrive*.
• Social Networking / Website Creation Services
  Users could switch to third-party website / page creation platforms e.g. Facebook, WIX.com and Google Sites. These platforms provide simple and easy-to-be-managed tools, and are commonly used in the industry.
