Prof Wai-Yee CHAN, College Master, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all benefactors for their unfailing support to the College. Prof CHAN said that many of our students had not only gained knowledge in their subjects, but had also developed maturity, confidence and a sense of responsibility. He wished that students participating in the Mentorship Scheme would become better acquainted with their mentors, and scholarship recipients would express their gratitude to the donors in person.
Mr David CHU spoke on behalf of the Committee of Overseers. He thanked the friends of the College, Mentors, the College Master and the teaching staff for their unreserved support and selfless contributions to the College. He then extended hearty congratulations to Scholarship and Certificate recipients. He concluded with his hope that, under Prof CHAN's leadership, the College will continue to develop following the motto of the College, Cultus et Beneficentia.
This year, a total of 22 seasoned professionals from different fields kindly agreed to be mentors of our students and to pass on their wisdom to 26 mentees studying different subjects. In his speech, Prof Thomas AU, Associate Master, College Dean of Students and Chair of the Admissions, Scholarships and Financial Aid Committee, spoke of the wish of 'CW Chu', referring to the wish of the late Mr CHU, the CHU family, the CHU scholars and the College, to see students live by the College motto, Cultus et Beneficentia—to make themselves good and to benefit the society.
This year, a total of 15 Admission Scholarships were granted to Year One students, 27 scholarships were presented to students for having achieved academic excellence, and two Scholarships for Physics Students were awarded to Physics majors. The College granted 16 students in Year Two and above scholarships to support their participation in outbound exchange programmes or overseas outreach activities. Three students that were acknowledged for their creativity were awarded scholarships, and two students that were recognised for their outstanding performance in General Education were presented with certificates.
To show appreciation to students who had devoted time and effort to organising College activities, certificates were presented to members of different student organizations, including the Second Residents' Association, the Third Representative Council of the CWC Student Union, the Fourth Student Honour Code Committee, and the Fourth CW Chu College Service Team.Miss MAK Yuen Ying, a Year Three student majoring in Food and Nutritional Sciences, delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of scholarship recipients. Miss MAK received the Lee Wai Wing Scholarship from the College this year. As the former President of the College Service Team, Miss MAK expressed her sincere gratitude to donors and the College. She said '… the scholarships awarded to us today shall motivate and support us to continue our journey towards our dreams, allowing us to flourish amid uncertainties in the future...' She also shared with us the insights that she gained from her experience of leading the Service Team.
