Walk-in Consultation by Science Student Academic Advisors & CV Clinic

Which course should I select? How can I apply for an exchange? What should I do if I would like to apply for an internship in summer? Such kind of questions might have flashed into your mind for many times and the walk-in consultation by Science Student Academic Advisors (SSAAs) is a new initiative taken to help resolve the doubts and your questions related to academic matters.

From 14 to 23 January, 2020, SSAAs from different major programmes and with diverse university experience were around Science Centre to answer peers’ questions about course selection, internship, and exchange experience, aiming to help them reach their academic goals and enrich their learning experience. Students came and learnt about SSAAs’ sharing on courses that they previously studied and tips on selecting major and minor programmes; some of them also asked about their first-hand experience in securing internship and graduate job offers, they also discussed ways to stand out in job interviews and their potential career direction with each other.

Preparing a résumé and personal statement may also be a new challenge to students. Dr. Philip Lee from Department of Statistics especially offered a CV clinic by quickly scanning students’ CVs, sharing useful tips, and giving advice to avoid making common mistakes in CVs. Dr. Lee will continue to hold the Résumé Writing Workshop later this year to help students to impress the interviewers.
