In his sharing, Prof Ponomarev introduced his home country, Russia, including its history, geographic, languages, traditional costumes, literature, artwork, performances, and food and drinks.
Prof Ponomarev spent a whole afternoon preparing local Russian treats, including Pelmeni (dumplings), sausages and salad. He also introduced Kvass, a traditional fermented beverage made from rye bread, and let participants had a taste of vodka!
The night was closed by a movie screening of Шерлок Холмс (Sherlock Holmes).
Night Talk on Gravitational Waves
Prof Tjonnie GF Li, College teacher from the Department of Physics, gave a sharing on gravitational waves to College students on 6 April 2016. The talk was well received by students, who were eager to learn about one of the greatest discoveries in science in 2016.
Prof Li has been involved in the work of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) since 2009. He introduced students to gravitational-wave physics, and spoke on the far-reaching implications of this extraordinary discovery. Students even got to hear the sound of a gravitational wave!
Academic Planning Day for Secondary 5 Students
Academic Planning Day for Secondary 5 Students was held on 9 April 2016. A promotional booth of CW Chu College was set up in the foyer of Sir Run Run Shaw Hall with student ambassadors introducing the features of a fully residential college. Two introduction sessions on the College were conducted by Prof Thomas Au, College Dean of Students and Chair of the Admissions, Scholarships and Financial Aid Committee, with a sharing on College life by Mr Erwin Chan, Year 2 student.
