Overseas and mainland exchange and internship programmes in this summer included "The Global Village for Future Leaders of Business and Industry 2012" in the United States, internship programmes in Japan and Shanghai, and studying tours in the University of Liverpool (United Kingdom), University of Queensland (Australia), University of Toronto (Canada), University of California, Los Angeles (United States), Tokyo Gaigogakuen Nihongogakko (Japan), Kwassui Women's University (Japan), and Fukuoka Seikei Gakuen (Japan).
Yuen Ka-man, a student of Higher Diploma in Financial Services, was selected as the Hong Kong representative to participate in "The Global Village for Future Leaders of Business and Industry 2012" organised by the Lehigh University, USA. It is a renowned programme enabling students to share their dream of being a leader in business. "It was an incredible experience! I met people from all around the world and also learnt how to mingle with people of different social backgrounds," Ka-man said. She said, "Through the programme, I know more about the business world and it has reinforced my aspiration to pursue a career in the financial sector."
Eight students of Higher Diploma in Tourism and Hospitality Management participated in an internship programme offered by Shanghai Sinan Mansions last summer. Leung Sze-man completed her internship in House Keeping Department and Front Office and found it an invaluable experience. "The internship programme not only helped me put what I've learnt into practice, but also gave me an opportunity to familiarise myself with the different management approach in the mainland," she said. She encourages her fellow students to participate in internship programmes and enjoy the learning experience.
In summer 2013, CUSCS will again offer exchange and internship programmes to enhance the students' global perspectives. "Global Career Development Internship Program" offered by the University of British Columbia, Canada, will be one of the choices. "The programme comprises of two terms, a full-time 4-week English course and a 4-week internship programme related to the students' field of study or interest," Ms. Jennifer Mielguj, Senior Program Leader of The University of British Columbia said. The programme is an excellent way for students to enhance their communication skills, improve their workplace skills and facilitate personal development. "It is good for them to step out of the box and develop global perspectives," Jennifer added.
Li Kwan-yung, a graduate of Higher Diploma in Applied Translation Studies, joined the programme last year and had her internship at a local newspaper. She said, "It was a memorable experience. I highly recommend the programme as students can be substantially benefited from it." She shared tips to get the most out of the programme: Step out of your comfort zone; talk to different people; immerse yourself in the host country and feel the culture; then you will find your mind opened up.
