The biggest news in science in 2016 is the detection of gravitational waves by LIGO, which won the 2016 Special Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics of US$ 3 million, and also the Shaw Prize. Prof Tjonnie Guang Feng Li, Research Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, is among the many team members honoured by the Breakthrough Prize, and shares in the award.
Prof Li is one of the authors of the paper 'Observation of gravitational waves from a binary black hole merger', Phys. Rev. Lett. 116, 061102 (2016).
