Linguists from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) universities were invited as speakers, including (in alphabetical order) Prof. Dun Deng (CUHK), Prof. Yang Gu (CUHK, Shenzhen), Prof. Jianhua Hu (Guangdong University of Foreign Studies), Prof. Huayong Lin (Sun Yat-sen University), Prof. Danqing Liu (Shenzhen University), Prof. Haihua Pan (CUHK), Prof. Jingmin Shao (Jinan University), Prof. Dingxu Shi (Guangdong University of Foreign Studies), Prof. Jie Xu (University of Macau), and Prof. Chunli Zhao (Jinan University).The presentations covered both general and applied linguistic issues, sparking lively discussions.
The research on Chinese grammar within the GBA, according to Prof. Tang Sze Wing, Director of CLRC, is known for its openness and diverse theoretical approaches, with a particular focus on crosslanguage and cross-dialect comparison. He hoped the Forum could help boost the profile and influence of insightful regional research while stimulating further discussions on teaching and studying Chinese grammar in the face of growing technological challenges. Furthermore, Prof. Tang emphasized the essence of strengthening basic research in this field, including encouraging more students and young scholars to get involved in the subject and achieve a thorough understanding of the Chinese language through proper methodology. Additionally, raising public awareness about the impact of Chinese grammar research would be necessary. Overall, the Forum served as a useful platform for promoting exchange and discussions on the development of Chinese grammar studies in the region. |
