In the first activity, two outstanding teams funded by the I·CARE Social Service Projects Scheme were invited to share their bittersweet experience in implementing social service amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Their corresponding projects are “RareHoliday” (which served rare disease patients and their families in Hong Kong) and “Boarding & Learning Centre for Commute Schoolchild in SanSha” (which organised diversified learning activities for the rural children in Fujian).
Concerning the second activity, Prof. Joyce Ma of the University’s Department of Social Work and Ms. Aby Chau, Service Director (Play and Playwork) of the Playright Children’s Play Association, served as guests to talk about the characteristics and needs of children, as well as the key elements of children service’s design. In particular, Prof. Ma shared with participants her rich experience in serving children with attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder and their parents, while Ms. Chau shed light on the importance of play work in meeting children’s developmental needs and how to design innovative services to satisfy the demand of the service users in times of epidemic.

* Speaker’s Biography:
Mr. Tony Chan sees Myanmar as his second home. He has been helping the Burmese get rid of poverty by establishing LxM, a charitable organisation based in Hong Kong, and Craving Good, an online social enterprise. The former addresses the educational needs of children in Myanmar; whereas the latter creates job opportunities for the low-income groups by selling their handmade products, hence improving their living conditions.
