Establishment of a New Research Centre - CUHK-BLCU Joint Research Centre for Chinese Linguistics and Applied Linguistics

The CUHK-BLCU Joint Research Centre for Chinese Linguistics and Applied Linguistics (The Centre) was established in August jointly by CUHK and the Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU).

Affiliated under the Faculty of Arts, the Center aims to develop further the newly established stylistic-register grammar, prosodic grammar and Trinitarian grammar in linguistics and to apply linguistics theorems and methods into Chinese language teaching not only for L2 learners but also for first language learners.

It is unique in its purpose of combining expertise from local research units with those from the Beijing Language and Culture University, and the center of L2 Chinese teaching in the world. To achieve the maximum synergy and intensify the research efforts, the Research Centre for Chinese Linguistics, previously under the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, has been merged into the new Centre.

A wide range of activities and research will be organized by the Centre, including exchange of scholars, student exchanges, collaborative research and exchange of academic materials.

It is expected that the Centre will provide cutting-edge theories and research results to the field of Chinese linguistics internationally and to the field of Chinese teaching throughout the world.
