Between October and November 2022, the Research Programme for Lingnan Culture, Institute of Chinese Studies organised the “Research Programme for Lingnan Culture: Public Lecture Series 2022”. The speakers gave face-to-face talks, which were also broadcast on Zoom. The first talk was delivered by Prof. Li Yuen Mei, Associate Professor of the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies at the Education University of Hong Kong. She spoke
on the topic “Cantonese, Graphic and Modernity: How Canton Revolutionary Newspapers disseminated knowledge in the Late Qing” on 13 October. The second talk was presented by Prof. Chan Hok Yin, Associate Professor of the Department of Chinese and History at the City University of Hong Kong. He spoke on the topic “Origins of Culture on the Coast: From Sung Wong Toi to Heung Hoi Ming Shan Memorial Archway”on 8 November. The lecture series drew over 100 CUHK colleagues and students, alumni, and members of the public. Many insightful comments and questions were raised during the discussion sessions.
