This sharing session purposefully adopted a small-group format. Majority of the students who participated in it are applicants of the 3rd round of I·CARE Social Service Projects Scheme. Some of them have received funding from the scheme before to extend their social service, while others are planning various new projects. They had a hope to strengthen their understanding of the changing needs of the service recipients in different communities, and to know how to design the service content from an empowerment and co-creation perspective.
During the sharing session, Prof. To introduced the concepts of "Need" and "Need Assessment" and reminded participants to be aware of the individual needs while exploring the collective needs of clientele. He engaged participants in interactive games (e.g. "Observation of Peanuts"), through which they learnt how to identify the strengths of the service recipients and help them unleash their potential. It was a good illustration of the "Help People to Help Themselves" principle.
To equip students for the application of subsidies from the I·CARE Social Service Projects Scheme, this Centre organises training activities every round. Apart from the Master Sharing Session, the Workshop on Proposal Writing & Useful Information took place on 13 March.
