CUHK Opens Taiwan Research Centre

The opening ceremony of the Taiwan Research Centre at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was held on 11 April, officiated by Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Ambrose King, former Vice-Chancellor and Emeritus Professor of Sociology of CUHK; and Mr. Fredric Mao, Convenor of the Hong Kong-Taiwan Cultural Cooperation Committee. Prof. Joseph Lee, Vice-President of Taiwan Central University; Prof. Leung Yuen-sang, Dean of Arts, Prof. Hsiung Ping-chen, Director of the Research Institute for the Humanities, and Prof. Desmond Hui, Director of the Taiwan Research Centre, also joined the officiating guests to unveil a commemorative plaque of the centre.  There were about 50 guests joining the ceremony, including local and overseas scholars of Taiwan studies, Taiwanese residents in Hong Kong, members of the HK-Taiwan Cultural Cooperation Committee, figures from the cultural, business and political sectors as well as academic members and students from CUHK.

2012 Academia Sinica Academicians Visit Programme cum Lecture Series Successfully Held

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) staged the second Academia Sinica (AS) Academicians Visit Programme from 24-27 April to establish closer partnership with AS. Three AS academicians were invited to visit CUHK for academic exchange; they included Prof. Andrew H.-J. Wang, Distinguished Research Fellow, Institute of Biology Chemistry, AS; Prof. Wang Kuan, Director of Institute of Chemistry and Nanomedicine Program, AS; and Prof. Yao Meng-Chao, Distinguished Research Fellow and Director, Institute of Molecular Biology, AS. During the visit, they delivered public lectures at the Lecture Series by Academicians and met with CUHK representatives to discuss collaboration opportunities.

Visit of President of Taiwan Cheng Kung University

A 15-member delegation led by Prof. Hwung Hwung-Hweng, President of Taiwan Cheng Kung University (NCKU) visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to discuss academic collaboration and exchange on 2 April 2012.

Delegation from Tianjin Municipal Committee

Mr. Guo Lijun, Member of the Standing Committee of Tianjin CPC Party Committee and Chairman of Municipal Education Committee of Tianjin CPC, led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 12 April 2012. The visit aimed to establish links and explore collaboration opportunity.

Visit of Vice-President of China Agriculture University

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) warmly received a 3-member delegation led by Prof. Zhang Jian Hua, Vice-President of China Agriculture University on 18 April 2012. The aim of the visit was to understand the development and management of the University Library and college system of CUHK, and to explore possibility for collaboration.

Joint Research Seminar in Beihang University

An 11-member delegation from the Faculties of Medicine and Engineering of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) participated in a joint research seminar on 19 April in Beihang University (BUAA). The CUHK delegation comprised members from Department of Electronic Engineering, Department of Surgery, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, and Department of Imaging and Interventional Radiology. Academic members of CUHK, together with participants from School of Biological Science and Medical Engineering of BUAA, presented their research work and discussed further opportunities in joint projects and interdisciplinary collaborations.

Delegation of Zhejiang University Visits CUHK

Prof. Zhang Tuqiao, Vice President of Zhejiang University, led a 9-member delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 26 April. The aim of the visit was to learn more about the estate management, campus development and energy-saving methods in the University.

Mr. Gong Guoping, Deputy Director General of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, led a 7-member delegation to the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 27 April 2012. The delegation comprised representatives from Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Commission.

The 4th Writers @CUHK

The fourth Writers @CUHK Programme was held in the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 18 April 2012. The programme was co-organized by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of CUHK and the Chinese Writers Press Group with the support from the Office of Academic Links (China) of CUHK. Guests paying visit to CUHK this time were Mr. Zhang Wei, a renowned Chinese writer, and Mr. Meng Fanhua, famous Chinese Literature critic.

-       Prof. Zheng Zhiming, Vice President of Beihang University, led a 6-member delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 25 April. The delegation met with Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Leung Mei-yee, Associate Director of University General Education; Prof. Maria Tam, Associate Head of New Asia College; and Mr. Raymond Leung, Director of Student Affairs. The guests were given information on the development of the University and on specific areas regarding the general education, management of student affairs and the college system of CUHK.
