Prof. Wu Zhaohui, President of Zhejiang University, visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on June 22 in a group of five and met with Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. Other CUHK senior members participating in the meeting included Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; and Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President. During the visit, the two presidents renewed the collaboration agreement between the two universities.
President Wu and President Sung discussed a range of collaboration plans at the meeting, which covered fields in marine studies, remote sensing, e-commerce, integration of medical science and engineering, as well as studies of Chinese literature and culture. The two universities, being the only member institutions from the Greater China region in the Worldwide Universities Network (WUN), would also like to join hands in enhancing the impact of the cross-strait region in the network. In grasping the opportunities provided by the national strategic initiatives such as the "One Belt, One Road" plan, both sides also discussed further collaboration in internationalization projects, joint summer programmes and joint supervision of students.
Zhejiang University and CUHK established partnership since 1991 and have been collaborating in a wide variety of areas. It is the first visit of President Wu since his assumption of duty as the President of Zhejiang University. The visit further enhanced understanding and bolstered the linkage between the two universities, towards a systemized development of partnership.
