CUHK Students Win Top Awards in Hong Kong Challenge Cup Competition

The "Challenge Cup" National Competition Hong Kong Regional Final – Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2016 was held in the Science Park on June 22.  Fourteen teams of students from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) swept top awards, receiving the highest share of prizes in the competition among local institutions.

Over 200 students from 13 local tertiary institutions submitted more than 100 projects for the two categories of the competition, namely "Innovation" and "Entrepreneurship".  In the Innovation category, CUHK students won the top prize, three first-class awards and four second-class awards.  The top prize in the Entrepreneurship category was also awarded to CUHK students plus one first-class award, three second-class awards and three third-class awards.  Their brilliant performance also enabled CUHK to win the Outstanding Organization Award.

The top prize winner in Innovation is Mr. Chen Jianwei from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering.  His invention of Nanoimprinting System provides a new nano-manufacturing platform with low cost and high efficiency techniques for various industrial and research applications.  Mr. KUO Wai Keung and Mr. LAU Pak Lam, the top prize winners in Entrepreneurship, established their R-Guardian Limited in 2015.  Their project involves the installation of Bluetooth devices in handbags and wallets, which can help users avoid losing their valuables with a tailor-made module in mobile applications.

The competition was organized by the Hong Kong New General Cultural Association.  Winning teams will represent Hong Kong at the biennial "Chuang Qing Chun" National Entrepreneurship Competition 2016.  The following is the list of CUHK awarded projects:
