CUHK Bridge to China Team: Recognition Received

CUHK Bridge to China Team is a university volunteering team formed under this Centre with the support and guidance from the Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation.  Since 2009, the team has been participating in and organising numerous investigation trips on villages, bridge building projects and public health programmes with the help of CUHK students.

In 2016, all kinds of volunteering teams patronised by Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation first adopted the Bailey Footbridge construction to help villagers in the rural areas of China to cross rivers.  With their concerted efforts, the technique of building Bailey Footbridge earned the patent granted by China National Intellectual Property Administration in 2020.  The Bailey Footbridge Construction Manual was published in the same year.  To celebrate this milestone achievement, Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation organised the “A Bridge of Hearts ‘Bailey Footbridge Construction Manual’ Press Conference cum Volunteer Recognition Ceremony” via live streaming on 22 January 2021.  Prof. Joseph Sung, Chairman of the Foundation and some other members of the governing body officiated at the event, while the CUHK Bridge to China Team and representatives of this Centre were among the audience.

During the press conference, the construction techniques of Bailey Footbridge was briefly introduced.  Part of the officiating guests and volunteering teams also shared their experience of previous involvement in the Wu Zhi Qiao projects.  As for the recognition ceremony, one of the awardees was the CUHK Bridge to China Team 2018-19.  They received the Silver Award for Volunteer Service (Group) issued by the Social Welfare Department in appreciation of their contribution of 600 hours of voluntary service to the community in 2019.

If you miss the live broadcast of the event, please visit the Wu Zhi Qiao Facebook Page for a review.  For enquiries, please contact Miss Wong of this Centre via 3943 9957 (Tel) or cathy@cuhk.edu.hk (Email).
