Deputy Director of LOCPG Visits CUHK
Prof. Tan Tieniu, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government (LOCPG) in the HKSAR and former Vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 25 January. He met with Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK to understand the University's latest research development.
CUHK participating members in meeting with Prof. Tan included Prof. Benjamin Wah, Provost; Prof. Fok Tai-fai and Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice Chancellors; Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President; as well as representatives of various partner laboratories of State Key Laboratories in CUHK, comprising Prof ZHANG Jianhua, Director of State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology; Prof LEUNG Ping-chung, Director of State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in West China; Prof. Henry Wong, Associate Director of State Key Laboratory of Synthetic Chemistry; Prof. TO Ka-fai, Associate Director of State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China; and Prof. YU Jun, Deputy Director of State Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease.
Apart from receiving the updates of the research development in CUHK, Prof. Tan discussed collaboration opportunities on different research areas and further plans between Hong Kong and mainland China with CUHK members. Next, Prof. Tan was led to visit the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology, the State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, and the State Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease, where he got to know more about the respective research achievements.
Prof. Tan paid a visit to CUHK as the Vice-President of CAS in March 2016 and co-chaired the CAS-CUHK Partnership Steering Committee with Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice Chancellor of CUHK. This visit is Prof. Tan's first one upon assuming duty of Deputy Director of LOCPG. He expressed his wish of facilitating HK-mainland collaborations and hoped that CUHK can further enhance its collaboration with the mainland based on the current close and elaborative connections.

Provost of Southeast University Visits CUHK
Prof. Wang Baoping, Provost of Southeast University, led a three-member delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 11 January. The delegates met with Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Ms Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) to understand CUHK's development and explore collaboration opportunities.
Prof. Fok welcomed the delegates and introduced to them the recent developments of the University. Both sides discussed collaboration opportunities in a range of areas covering scientific research, academic exchange, nurturing of talents and student programmes at the meeting. Plans were devised and the two universities will renew the collaboration agreement.
Since the signing of the collaboration agreement in 1994, CUHK and Southeast University have established frequent links between faculty members via academic activities and joint research projects. This visit enhanced mutual understanding and strengthened the partnership between the two universities for further expansion.

Delegation Led by Deputy Party Secretary of Soochow University Visits CUHK
Prof. Gao Zulin, Deputy Party Secretary of Soochow University, led a four-member delegation to Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 5 January. He met with Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President of CUHK and Ms Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) during the visit. Representatives from both sides discussed their experience in teaching management, student admissions, college system and student interflow activities at the meeting.
The delegates also visited C.W. Chu College and held a meeting with Prof. Chan Wai-yee, College Master; Prof. Kenneth Young, Former College Master; and Ms Melody Lee, College Secretary. They exchanged information and views of the University's and College's latest development. Both CUHK and Soochow University have a C.W. Chu College, which was founded by the same patriotic industrialist, Mr. C.W. Chu. The two colleges aspire to advocate the spirit of cultivating oneself and benefitting the community. The visit provided more opportunities for communication and facilitated the implementation of further collaborative activities between the two universities.
