Party Secretary and Mayor of Guangzhou City Visit CUHK
Dr. Zhang Shuofu and Mr. Wen Guohui, Party Secretary and Mayor of Guangzhou City, led a delegation of officials from the Municipal Committee and Government to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 15 October. They met with senior members of the University to explore further collaboration opportunities for research and innovation, including the joint nurture and exchange of high-calibre talents, under the initiative of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The incoming guests are from different units, ranging from development and reform, education, technological innovation, Nansha development and Hong Kong and Macau affairs.
The delegates met and discussed issues of collaboration with Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Mr. Eric Ng, Vice-President; Professor Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President; Professor Leung Ting-hung, School Director of Chinese Medicine; Professor Shen Jianfa, Department of Geography and Resource Management; Dr. Lee Chi-ming, Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services; Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China); and Mr. Chan Chi-ho, Director of Strategic Developments. Professor Tuan, apart from introducing CUHK's current situation and upcoming development strategies, showcased the University's efforts in the development of the Bay Area. He expressed that an even closer relationship between CUHK and the Area is expected by launching more projects of technological transfers, innovation and entrepreneurship collaboration in the region.
CUHK has concluded a variety of collaborative partnership agreements with universities and organizations in Guangdong Province. Around 30 joint research units have been established, including State Key Laboratory, Ministry of Education Key Laboratory, as well as research extension unit at national level in humanities and social sciences. The University also joined hands with Sun Yat-sen University and University of Macau to initiate the establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance in 2016, which aspires to extend the current efforts of elite universities in nurturing talents and promoting regional development, to create the "One-hour Academic Circle" in the Bay Area.

Vice-President of NCKU Enhances Exchange with Faculty of Social Science of CUHK
Professor Lin Chong-I, Executive Vice President of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), in a delegation of three, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from 9 to 12 October. He met with Professor Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and members of the Faculty of Social Science to discuss collaborative issues and participate in a series of academic activities held by the Joint Research Centre for Positive Social Science.
Professor Lin and delegates had meetings at CUHK with such faculty members as Professor Chiu Chi-yue, Faculty Dean of Social Science; Professor Winnie Mak, Associate Dean; Professor Helene Fung, Department Chair of Psychology; and Professor Ng Mee-kam, Vice Department Chair of Geography and Geography and Resource Management. Research topics like mindfulness, virtual reality for aged care, theme-based research, community research and electroencephalography were discussed. Both sides reported progress of ongoing projects and discussed the future direction of collaboration.
Both CUHK and NCKU have been pioneers and collaborating in positive social science research for many years. The CUHK-NCKU Joint Research Centre for Positive Social Science was established in 2015. As the University's first joint research centre in social science with universities in Taiwan, the centre engages its interest in community building, user-friendly technology, and citizenship. The visit facilitated the communication and enhanced the sustainable development of collaborative relationship between the two universities in social sciences.

Director of HK, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of NSFC Visits CUHK
Dr. Yang Junlin, Director of Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao Affairs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 8 October. During his visit, Dr. Yang was arranged to meet with Professor Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Professor Xie Zuowei, Interim Faculty Dean of Science; Professor Yeung Ying-yeung, Department Chair of Chemistry. Apart from getting to know more about the recent research developments of CUHK, the delegates toured the laboratory facilities and met with faculty members at the Department of Chemistry.
CUHK and NSFC have been in a close collaborative relationship. The Foundation has been co-organizing annual academic symposia of different themes with CUHK since 2007, providing platforms for intellectual exchange between scientists and scholars in mainland China and Hong Kong, while exploring collaboration opportunities. This visit is Dr. Yang's first official visit to CUHK since his duty assumption, which contributed to the enhancement of links between CUHK and NSFC for expansion of the scope of further collaboration.

Vice-President of Fudan University Visits CUHK
Professor Zhang Zhiyong, Vice-President of Fudan University, led a delegation of five to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 2 October. The delegates met with Professor Fok Tai-fai and Professor Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellors of CUHK; Mr. Fung Siu-man, Director of Campus Development; Mr. Edmond Lam, Director of Estates Management; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China). Both sides shared work experience of property management, project design, construction and logistics management. The delegates participated in a campus tour by Mr. Kalvin Lai, Assistant Director (Sustainability) of Campus Planning and Sustainability Office to learn about the University's green and logistics facilities. This visit enabled administrative heads of both sides to exchange ideas and to learn from each other in campus development.

NTNU Vice-President Visits CUHK
Professor Greg Lee, Executive Vice President of National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 31 October. The delegates gained a better understanding of CUHK's development in the meetings with Professor Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President of CUHK; Professor Alvin Leung, Faculty Dean of Education; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China). Both sides discussed ways to promote internationalization and student internships and teaching practica during the visit paid to the Faculty of Education. The meeting further enhanced the linkage between the two universities, particularly in faculties of education, paving the way for future collaboration.

CUHK Receives Delegates from Yunnan University
Professor Ding Zhongtao, Vice-President of Yunnan University, led representatives from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Office and Registry to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 18 October. They met with CUHK colleagues from Office of Academic Links (China), as well as from the Academic and Quality Section and the Registration and Examinations Section of the Registry to learn about the development of the University, explore collaboration opportunities in student interflow activities, and share experience in academic management systems.
