CAS Academicians Visit CUHK for Academicians Lecture Series
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Academicians Visit Programme from 22 to 25 January on campus, inviting five distinguished academicians, namely Prof. Tan Weihong and Prof. Guo Zijian from Division of Chemistry; Prof. Chong Kang and Prof. Liu Yaoguang from Division of Life Sciences and Medical Sciences; and Prof. Chen Zhiming from Division of Mathematics and Physics, to visit CUHK. The academicians shared their latest research findings in plant physiology, computational mathematics, analytical chemistry and biochemistry in lecture, and discussed future collaboration plans with CUHK members during their stay.
The delegates were warmly received by CUHK senior management members including Prof. Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President; Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Xie Zuowei, Faculty Dean of Science; Prof. Jiang Liwen, Associate Dean (Research) of Science; Prof. Irwin King, Associate Dean (Education) of Engineering; Prof. Zou Jun, Department Chairman of Mathematics; Prof. Lam Hon Ming, Director of State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology; Prof. Xin Zhouping, Associate Director of Institute of Mathematical Sciences; Prof. Xia Jiang, Associate Professor of Chemistry and Prof. Jonathan Choi, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering. The delegates visited relevant CUHK units including the Department of Chemistry, Department of Biomedical Engineering, School of Life Sciences and Department of Mathematics, alongside the various laboratories and research centres. They were introduced to the latest development and research plans of the University. Interactive meetings were arranged with faculty members to discuss collaboration opportunities in a range of fields.
The five academicians delivered public lectures for the Lecture Series by Academicians on 23 January, sharing their research expertise and insights with members of CUHK and of the public. The lectures attracted an audience of around 300 people. Details are listed below:

CUHK has been in close collaboration with CAS in academic exchange and joint research projects since the partnership establishment in 1986. The Academicians Visit Programme, first held in 2008, invites academicians of CAS annually to visit CUHK and host academicians' lectures, with the aim of promoting further academic exchange between CUHK and CAS in research fields, building up collaboration platforms and enhancing academic and research standards of both institutions. Mainland Visiting Scholars and Students Celebrate CNY with CUHK Members
The Office of Academic Links (China) [OALC] organized a Spring Festival gathering for incoming scholars and students under our "Mainland and Taiwan Visiting Scholar Programme", "Hong Kong Scholars Program", "Mainland and Taiwan Visiting Student Programme" and "Joint Supervision of Postgraduate Student Programme" on 29 January. Participants enjoyed the festive atmosphere of the Lunar New Year together with the University's members on campus.
Members attending the gathering included Prof. Michelle Miao, Deputy Director of Centre for Rights and Justice of Faculty of Law and Ms Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China). Participants shared their experience in CUHK and exchanged ideas of teaching and learning in Hong Kong.
To forge academic exchange and collaboration between CUHK and its cross-strait partners, OALC launched the "Mainland China and Taiwan Visiting Scholar Programme", the "Mainland China and Taiwan Visiting Student Programme" and the "Joint Supervision of Postgraduate Student Programme" in 2008, 2011 and 2016 respectively. The Office also started coordinating the "Hong Kong Scholars Program" in 2015.
