Workshop on Chinese as an International Academic Language in Humanities and Social Sciences

A joint workshop on Chinese as an International Academic Language in Humanities and Social Sciences among the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Taiwan University (NTU) was held in SJTU on 21 March 2014.

Participants of the Workshop included Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Lin Zhongqin, Vice-President of SJTU; Prof. Chang Ching-Ray, Vice-President of NTU; as well as other scholars in the field of humanities and social sciences from the three universities. Discussions were held on topics in relation to the academic assessment of Chinese publications, structure of the Arts and Humanities citation index, evaluation tool for research in the arts and humanities, development of database and joint publications.

The workshop served as a valuable opportunity for cross-strait higher education members to share their views on the recognition of Chinese publications and to address the issues in academic assessment systems. It also nurtured links among CUHK, SJTU and NTU to consolidate efforts on promoting Chinese culture, including the use of Chinese in teaching and academic publication.
