A 10-member delegation from the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) under the CAE Academicians Visit Programme from 5 to 8 December 2011. The delegation comprised Prof. Jiang Wenhan from the Division of Information and Electronic Engineering; Prof. Liu Xianlin and Prof. Liu Jingnan from the Division of Civil Hydraulic and Architecture Engineering; and Prof. Wang Weiqi and Prof. Fu Xiaobing from the Division of Health Engineering.

The delegates were warmly received by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and senior colleagues Pro-Vice-Chancellors Prof. Jack Cheng and Prof. Henry Wong, Prof. Xu Yangsheng; as well as faculty members from the Faculties of Medicine, Engineering. The delegation paid visit to the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering, the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, School of Biomedical Sciences, and toured research facilities where they were given brief summaries on the latest research development of the University. Representatives from CUHK and CAE took the opportunity to exchange ideas and explore possibilities for further collaboration.

On 6 and 7 December, the five academicians delivered public lectures for the Lecture Series by Academicians and shared their expertise with audience on campus. Prof. Jiang Wenhan talked about the development of adaptive optics at the Institute of Optics and Electronics of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Prof. Liu Xianlin and Prof. Liu Jingnan explained their research work to the development of surveying, mapping and geospatial information system; Prof. Wang Weiqi gave a presentation on Medical Information & Medical Device in China; and Prof. Fu Xiaobing delivered a lecture entitled Wound Repair and Regeneration in China: Focus and Success.

The academicians shared their views in adaptive optics, surveying and mapping, ultrasonography and regenerative medicine. More than three hundred people including academics, experts, related government officials, researchers, students as well as members from the general public were attracted to join the lectures.

CAE Academicians Visit Programme was launched by the University in 2008 to promote academic exchange with CAE. Under this programme, five to six CAE academicians are invited to visit CUHK and deliver public lectures for the Lecture Series by Academicians each year.
