Dr. Shan Jixiang, Director of the Palace Museum visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 10 September. He delivered a public lecture entitled Hand over a Magnificent Forbidden City to the Next 600 Years.
Dr. Shan started the lecture with the cultural identity and heritage of the Palace Museum, discussing the ancient architecture, the imperial collection and its visitors. A pilot-project "Peaceful Palace Museum", approved by the State Council and initiated in the first half of 2013 was also introduced. Dr. Shan shared his expectation that in 2020, on the 600th anniversary of the Forbidden City, the Palace Museum will continue to grow steadilyin its management and service, being ranked among all other top museums in the world. The lecture attracted more than two hundred staff and students from CUHK and local universities, professionals in the field.
During his visit in CUHK, Dr. Shan met with CUHK senior members, including Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Jenny So, Director of the Art Museum; and Prof. Ho Puay Peng, Director of School of Architecture. The visit strengthened the bilateral ties and paved the way for further collaboration in Chinese culture.
