Co-hosted by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Hong Kong Blind Union (HKBU), the "Mainland China-Hong Kong-Macao Forum on Integrated Education for the Visually Impaired" was held at Cho Yiu Hall of CUHK on 25 – 26 October. The Forum, themed "How to effectively support visually impaired students in higher education", attracted nearly 100 participants from CUHK and other institutions.
Professor Edwin Chan, Associate Vice-President and University Dean of Students of CUHK, and Mr. Chong Chan-yau, President of HKBU, officiated at the Forum and served as keynote speakers. Invited scholars from relevant organizations and institutions gave presentations and shared their views on promoting inclusive education in the round-table discussion and 16 sharing sessions. The event gathered professionals and experts from various sectors who are committed to the advocacy of equal rights for education, cultivating a network for future collaboration and promotion of integrated education.
Since 2015, CUHK has started collaboration with HKBU which sent two to four visually-impaired students from Binzhou Medical University of Shandong Province to visit the University for two weeks each year. The visiting students audited classes and participated in a diversity of community activities, experiencing the university life in Hong Kong in the company of CUHK volunteers. With the solid foundation established over the past three years, CUHK and HKBU first joined hands to organize the academic forum this year.
