State Minister of Education Visits CUHK

 

Mr. Chen Baosheng, State Minister of Education, led an eight-member delegation, comprising head officials of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Department of Basic Education, Department of Social Sciences, and Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 14 April.

 

The delegation received a warm welcome from CUHK's senior management, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rocky Tuan, Provost Prof. Benjamin Wah, the five Pro-Vice-Chancellors Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Prof. Fanny Cheung, Prof. Isabella Poon, Prof. Dennis Ng and Mr. Eric Ng, Associate Vice-President Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Prof. Chan Wai-yee (Master of C.W. Chu College and Director of School of Biomedical Sciences) and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China).

 

Mr. Chen together with the delegates learned about the University's latest developments during the meeting and paid a visit to the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science and relevant research facilities in CUHK.  During his stay, Mr. Chen also officiated and presented prizes at the Ceremony of Ministry of Education Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (please see the Section of "Academic Exchange Activities" of this issue) held on CUHK campus.

 

The State Ministry of Education (MOE) has been supporting CUHK and Hong Kong tertiary institutions to launch a wide range of collaboration projects with mainland China.  CUHK has currently three MOE Key Laboratories and the only two extension units of the Humanities and Social Sciences Key Research Base in Hong Kong. MOE launched the Ten Thousand Student Interflow Programme in 2013 to encourage Hong Kong students to conduct experiential learning activities on the mainland.  Over 9,000 CUHK students and staff have been sent to mainland China since the Programme is launched.

Director General of Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province Visits CUHK

 

A delegation from the Department of Science and Technology of Guangdong Province, led by Director General Dr. Wang Ruijun, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 12 April, during which they met with Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Dennis Lo, Director of State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China (Partner Laboratory in CUHK); Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine, Prof. Liu Yunhui, Director of T Stone Robotics Institute; Prof. Christopher Cheng, Director of Shenzhen Research Institute; Dr. Lee Chi Ming, Director of Research and Knowledge Transfer Services; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) for exchange.

 

The delegates were warmly welcomed by Prof. Cheung and colleagues, who gave a detailed introduction of the University's research developments and specificially upates of research collaboration and technology transfer in Guangdong Province.  Both sides discussed ways of enhancing collaboration between Guangdong Province and Hong Kong, with focus to prompt technological exchanges in the Big Bay Area of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau and muster efforts in international technological innovation centre.  The delegation also paid visits to tour around facilities of State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Ministry of Education Key Laboratory of Regenerative Medicine, and T Stone Robotics Institute.

Party Secretary of China University of Political Science and Law Exchanges Ideas of Collaboration with Faculty of Law of CUHK

 

Prof. Hu Ming, Party Secretary of China University of Political Science and Law, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 17 April.  Apart from attending the Installation Ceremony of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Rocky Tuan, the delegates met with members of the Faculty of Law, including Prof. Christopher Gane, Faculty Dean; Prof. Xi Chao, Professor; and Prof. Seppaenen Samuli, Assistant Professor, as well as Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) to discuss collaboration issues in the Law Schools Global League and Mainland-Hong Kong-Macau Law Education Alliance.

 

Since the establishment of partnership in 2009, both universities have been collaborating in a range of areas, particularly in law.  CUHK joined the Mainland-Hong Kong-Macau Law Education Alliance in June 2017 and took up the role as the Vice-Chairman Institution of the Alliance.  Prof. Hu's visit further contributed to the strengthening of the ties between the two universities, paving the way for the expansion of collaboration plans.

Deputy Secretary of Renmin University of China Visits CUHK

 

Prof. Wu Fulai, Deputy Party Secretary of Renmin University of China (RUC) visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 13 April 2018.  The delegates met with CUHK members including Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Cheong Wai Ling, Chairman of Department of Music and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China).  Both sides discussed collaboration opportunities and devised plans to enhance collaboration in music and art.

 

During the meeting, CUHK representatives introduced the University's latest development in art and music to the delegates, while Prof. Wu also gave upates on artistic development in RUC. Prof. Wu expressed his hope to encourage in-depth exchange and set out the blueprints of collaboration plans.  The visit enhanced linkage and friendship between CUHK and RUC, laying a solid foundation for future collaboration in various aspects.

President of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Visits School of Chinese Medicine of CUHK

 

Prof. Wu Jibiao, President of Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine led a six-member delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 26 April 2018.  Delegates met with Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; members of the School of Chinese Medicine including Prof. Leung Ting-hung, School Director; Prof. Zhang Baoting, Assistant Director; Mr ZHANG Jianguo, Professional Consultant; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China).  Both sides discussed measures to carry out collaboration in relevant professional fields of Chinese medical sciences and Chinese medicine. Next the delegation was led to tour around relvant research and outpatient facilities of the School for more academic exchange.

Members of CPC Hebei Provincial Committee Visit CUHK

 

Mr. Gao Zhili, Member of CPC Hebei Provincial Committee led an eleven-member delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 17 April.  Delegates came to know more about CUHK's research development in medical studies during the meeting with Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Yu Jun, Director of Research Laboratory of Institute of Digestive Disease and Associate Director of State Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease (Partner Laboratory in CUHK); and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China). After the meeting, a visit was paid to the State Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease (Partner Laboratory in CUHK) to explore and discuss collaborative opportunities.
