My Life at CW Chu College (by Takuro MOTOHASHI)

By Takuro MOTOHASHI (本橋巧朗)

I arrived in Hong Kong in late August 2015. I remember seeing tons of people and eye-catching signboards everywhere. To me, that was chaotic and I was shocked at the beginning. Very soon, however, I found myself entirely adapted to this new environment and I was very excited about a new adventure ahead.

After the orientation events, I stepped into CW Chu College. Truth be told, without too much prior knowledge about CUHK, I was not entirely sure about why I chose this College at first. With hindsight, I was very lucky to have chosen CWC.

My time at CWC was full of opportunities, and I tried not to miss any of them. CWC students, including exchange students, have dinners together a couple of times a week. There were a lot of cultural events and sometimes talks/ seminars with a more intellectual focus. These events have strengthened the ties between students and the identity of the CWC family. In CWC, we interacted with people from different backgrounds, which helped shape our community. I experienced the dynamics and diversities of CWC, in which students majoring in different fields discuss and share their ideas. I still remember the day when I organised a Japanese night with my Japanese fellows who were also doing an exchange programme here. We introduced Japanese culture, demonstrated how to make sushi and takoyaki, and feasted on Japanese traditional food together with many other participants. The event was very successful, with many participants, and that was the very moment when I strongly felt myself being a part of the CWC community.

I really appreciate the whole CWC community for welcoming me and my fellow students during the past year. I have already left CUHK, but I believe that my affiliation with CWC will not come to an end. I will make use of what I have learnt at CWC for my future endeavours, and hope I can keep in touch with the community. See you!
