The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) has been collaborating with Beihang University (BUAA) for years in different research areas. Riding on such strengths, both universities collaborate to establish the CUHK-BUAA Joint Research Centre on Medical Engineering between the Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Medicine at CUHK, and the School of Biological Science & Medical Engineering at BUAA. The inauguration ceremony, officiated by Prof. Huai Jinpeng, President of BUAA and, Prof. Xu Yangsheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK was held on 26 October in Beijing on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of BUAA.
During the establishment ceremony, Prof. Huai and Prof. Xu signed a collaboration agreement to consolidate the work plan of the joint centre on behalf of the two universities. Dozens of guests from CUHK and BUAA witnessed the significant moment. The establishment will strengthen ties between CUHK and BUAA towards long and sustainable collaboration in Medical Engineering. Prof. Arthur Mak of Department of Electronic Engineering and Prof. Qin Lin of the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology will be the Co-Director and Associate Director of the joint center respectively on behalf of CUHK. Based on the past collaborations between CUHK and BUAA, faculty members in engineering and medicine at the two universities will embark on the research collaboration in the areas of Biomaterials, Biomechanics, Rehabilitation and Health Technology for the Elderly.
The delegation of CUHK took the opportunity to join the celebration activities for the 60th anniversary of BUAA. Prof. Xu sent his congratulations to Prof. Huai and stated CUHK's continuous effort in bolstering strong ties between the two universities. The delegates also attended the 2012 International Forum on Engineering Education and University-Industry Cooperation where they exchanged views with scholars and experts in related areas.
