Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance Holds 2020 Working Group Meeting
The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance(GHMUA) which was initiated by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and the University of Macau (UM), called a working group online meeting on 15 April 2020 to review and discuss work plans under the Alliance. Participants at the meeting included Ms. Tian Lulu, Deputy Director of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs of the Ministry of Education (MOE); Mr. Li Jinjun, Director of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs Office of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province; Ms. Winkie Chick, Assistant Secretary (Higher Education) of the Education Bureau of HKSAR; Mr. Chang Kun Hong, Deputy Head of Higher Education Bureau of Macao, together with representatives from Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the People's Government of Guangdong Province; Department of Education, Science and Technology of the LOCPG in HKSAR and Macao SAR; as well as 37 member institutions of GHMUA. Representatives gave progress report in 2019 and presented work plan for 2020. Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) of CUHK reported the allocation and disbursement of a special funding supporting GHMUA provided by the Education Bureau of HKSAR covering alliance affairs, student interflow and academic exchange activities. Discusssions were held according to the theme “The Alliance’s role as an exchange platform under the epidemic to enhance internal joint force, strive for external resources to serve the Greater Bay Area and the country.” Members exchanged views to boost communication for growth of research and educational collaboration. Founded in November 2016, the Alliance aspires to gather elite universities in the region, to facilitate the nurture of leaders and to foster regional collaboration. Member institutions include 9 universities from Hong Kong, 21 universities from Guangdong Province and 7 universities from Macao.
