CUHK Joins the Belt and Road International Community of Health

With the aim of strengthening global public health cooperation, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) joined the “Belt and Road” International Community of Health initiated by Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU). An initiating ceremony of the “Belt and Road” International Community of Health was held at the Silk Road Summit Forum on Healthcare in Western China on 15 September 2020. Professor Samuel Wong, Director of the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care of CUHK, published a video on joining the “Belt and Road” International Community of Health on behalf of CUHK in the ceremony.

The theme of this forum is "Health for all, Co-creating the Future". XJTU presented the Proposal of the “Belt and Road” International Community of Health to local governments, universities, medical organizations and medical research institutions along the Belt and Road regions. Representatives of universities, medical institutions from 22 countries and regions, and Nobel Laureates expressed their willingness to join the initiative through video.

To capitalize on the new opportunities presented by the national “Belt and Road” Initiative, CUHK has attached great importance to developing and strengthening links with Belt and Road region on different fronts. The University joined the University Alliance of the Silk Road established by XJTU in 2019. The Alliance now comprises of nearly 151 member universities from 37 countries and regions. It aims at building a cooperative education platform for advanced regional development, fostering collaboration among members in areas of academic and scientific exchange, as well as cultural communications.

Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance Holds 2020 Working Group Meeting

Shanghai-Hong Kong University Alliance (SHUA) called a working group online meeting on 21 October 2020 to review and discuss work plans under the Alliance. The meeting was attended by 16 member institutions of SHUA and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) participated in the meeting on behalf of the University.

Representatives delivered progress report in 2020 and discussed the arrangement of the Annual Meeting of SHUA cum Executive workshop for 2020. Members took the opportunity to exchange views on future plans for deep collaboration and the challenges ahead with the hope to boost communication for growth of research and educational collaboration.

SHUA was founded by 16 universities in Shanghai and Hong Kong, with the aim to establishing a closer linkage among member universities, fostering talent nurturing and scientific research collaboration. Member universities include 8 institutions in Shanghai, namely Fudan Universities, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Tongji University, East China Normal University, Shanghai University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai Normal University, East China University of Political Science and Law; and 8 institutions in Hong Kong, including City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, CUHK, The Education University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and The University of Hong Kong.
