Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Scholars Visit Programme cum Lecture Series 2017

 

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) hosted three distinguished mainland scholars through the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Scholars Visit Programme from 6  9 March 2017.  The three CASS scholars are Prof. Zhang Yi, National Institute of Social Development; Prof. Gu Yueguo, Institute of Linguistics; and Prof. Chen Zexian, Institute of International Law.

 

The University extended a warm welcome to the delegation.  The scholars met with Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Research Committee; Prof. Chiu Chi-yue, Faculty Dean of Social Sciences; Prof. Lai Pan-chiu, Associate Faculty Dean of Arts; Prof. Xi Chao, Assistant Faculty Dean of Law; Prof. Thomas Lee, Department Chairman of Linguistics and Modern Languages; Prof. Eric Fong, Department Chairman of Social Work; Prof. Stephen Chiu, Director of Co-Director of Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies; and .Prof. Zhou Mimi, Faculty of Law.

 

Visits were paid to relevant academic and research units of the University including Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, Faculty of Law, the Departments of Linguistics and Modern Languages, and Sociology, where the scholars familiarized themselves with the latest development of the University, and interacted with faculty members to discuss on further collaboration plans in a range of relevant fields.  The three scholars delivered public lectures for the Lecture Series of CASS Scholars during their stay in CUHK, sharing their expertise in respective research areas with members of CUHK and the public.  The lectures attracted an audience of around 100 people.  Lecture details are as follows:

The CASS Scholars Visit Programme was first organized in 2012.  Each year, three to four CASS scholars are invited to visit CUHK and deliver talks for the Lecture Series.  This programme aims to strengthen academic exchange and enhance long-term collaboration between CUHK and CASS, facilitating partnership development and research synergy.  Programme details can be found here.
