The 7th Interflow Program for Mainland Academic Links Officers in Cooperation with the Ministry of Education

With the support from the Ministry of Education (MOE), the 7th Interflow Program for Mainland Academic Links Officers was held from 10 to 16 November 2014.  A total of 30 academic links executives from various mainland universities participated in the program. Pro-Vice-Chancellors Prof. Fok Tai Fai and Prof. Hau Kit-tai warmly welcomed the participants.

Prof. Fok officiated at the opening ceremony together with Mr. Liu Chenggang, Director, Office of Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs, MOE and Mr. Lo Sai Hung, Deputy Secretary, Further and Higher Education Branch of Education Bureau, HKSAR.

The 7-day programme consisted of a series of lectures and visits, through which participants came to have a better understanding in the areas of academic exchange, new teaching approach, college system, human resources management, special caring for non-local students and fund-raising activities in higher education institutions, as well as the education system in Hong Kong. The participants also had chances to learn basic Cantonese and to pay visits to the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR and some public organizations and cultural spots of Hong Kong to acquire a broader picture of Hong Kong.

Apart from getting to know each other, participants from different universities in Hong Kong and in Mainland China were provided with a valuable opportunity to enhance mutual understanding, further paving the way for future cooperation among the regions.

Exchange Seminar of Association for Introducing Foreign Intelligence under Chinese Association of Higher Education

An exchange seminar of the Association for Introducing Foreign Intelligence, Sub-association of Chinese Association of Higher Education was held in the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 17 November 2014. The theme this year was "Challenge of Talent Management in Higher Education in Mainland China, Hong Kong".

Over 30 representatives from 23 institutions in Mainland China and Hong Kong joined the meeting, including Prof. Li Yansong, Vice-President of Peking University and Chairman of the Association; Prof. Yan Shijing, Vice-President of Sichuan University; Mr. Wei Dawei, General Manager of Beijing-Hong Kong Exchange of Personnel Centre Limited and heads of academic exchange units of Mainland and Hong Kong universities. Pro-Vice-Chancellors of CUHK Prof. Fok Tai-fai and Prof. Hau Kit-tai received the guests on behalf of the University.

Discussions were held at the meeting on topics relating to internationalization strategy, academic programs, alumni connections and talent recruitment policy in universities.  The meeting provided opportunities for the senior members and academic exchange heads to exchange ideas and experience in talent management in higher education sector. Participants not only obtained knowledge of the latest developments of the universities in the regions, but also established stronger links with each other. 

The Association for Introducing Foreign Intelligence is formed by a group of tertiary institutions dedicating efforts to promote internationalization and academic exchange for higher education in China. Its main activities comprise of exchange seminars, training class and information sharing. CUHK is a member of the Standing Committee of the Association.
