Zhejiang University (ZJU), one of the major key partners of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), is celebrating its 120th Anniversary this year. A delegation of ZJU made a visit to Hong Kong on 21 February for celebratory activities. Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, participated in the activities, congratulating ZJU on this important milestone in its historical development.
Prof. Sung delivered a speech in the celebration dinner on behalf of all Hong Kong tertiary institutions. "Science and education are pillars for a nation's long-term development. It is hoped that CUHK and ZJU can work together to enhance teaching and research levels, so as to construct solid platforms for scientific research and nurture of talents. By synegizing with each other, we are able to broaden and deepen the existing scopes of collaboration, contributing to national development in science and education with more fruitful results and far-reaching impacts," said Prof. Sung during the celebration event.
Since the establishment of partnership in 1991, CUHK has been collaborating closely with ZJU on a wide range of areas, including research, supervision of postgraduates and student interflow. Both universities are members of the Worldwide Universities Network and the Association of University Presidents of China. The two universities have jointly established research units in biomedical engineering, natural products and toxicology research, advanced photonics, as well as liver and digestive diseases.
