I·CARE Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project: Progress Update

Affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the part of tours’ delivery by CUHK students under the I·CARE Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project of this academic year will be conducted online adopting virtual reality technology.  Since there will no longer be limitation on the physical environment of the tours, this Centre has extended the service recipients to cover students from special schools.  Participants will visit various places of Hong Kong to learn about its history and culture with just a simple VR headset.

The 28 CUHK students recruited for the I·CARE Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project of this academic year have completed a series of professional docent training, which included attending online seminars and taking part in site visits.  To produce the virtual reality content, they have already developed tour routes and written scripts in accordance with the themes below:

  1. Food Culture and History (Sham Shui Po)
  2. The Development of New Towns (Tuen Mun)
  3. The Rise and Fall of Local Mining (Cha Kwo Ling)
  4. Hong Kong’s Light Industries in the Post-war Era (Tsuen Wan)

The CUHK students will soon conduct mock tours online under the guidance of experienced tutors to get themselves well-prepared for the virtual tours to be held from April to June.

For enquiries, please contact Miss Li of this Centre via 3943 2306 (Tel) or laurali@cuhk.edu.hk (Email).
