Presidents of CUHK and PKU Meet to Enhance Collaboration

 

A six-member delegation of Peking University (PKU), led by Professor Hao Ping, President and Professor Liu Yucun, Deputy Party Secretary, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 6 December, during which delegates met and devised plans of academic and research collaboration with Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and various CUHK members.

 

Representatives of CUHK meeting the delegates include Professor Fanny Cheung and Professor Isabella Poon, Pro-Vice-Chancellors; Professor Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President; Professor Ng Ho-keung, Acting Faculty Dean of Medicine and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China).  Professor Tuan thanked Professor Hao for his continuous support to the University in various positions, and expressed sincere hopes for enhancing deep and strategic collaboration projects based on the current solid foundation. 

Since the signing of the exchange agreement in 1985, CUHK has been in a close collaborative relationship with PKU in areas of partnership collaboration, research and development, and talent nurture.  The visit facilitated the development of linkage and enable a better understanding of the recent developments of each other, enhancing communication for further advancement of collaboration between PKU and the University.

Party Secretary of Tsinghua University Leads Delegation to CUHK

 

Professor Chen Xu, Chairperson of University Council of Tsinghua University, led a five-member delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 6 December. She met with Professor Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor; Professor Fok Tai-fai and Professor Isabella Poon, Pro-Vice-Chancellors and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China).

 

Professor Tuan gave an introduction of the University's new developments in nurturing talents in fields of artificial intelligence, financial technology and bioengineering, including curriculum development and new modes of supervision, He expressed hopes for the strengthening of academic exchange and suggested further promotion of potential collaboration projects specifically in academic programmes and establishment of steering committee.  Professor Chen Xu also officiated at the Opening Ceremony of the China-UK Humanities Annual Forum held at CUHK (click here for details) during her stay in Hong Kong. 

CUHK established partnership with Tsinghua as early as in 1985.  Research collaboration between both universities ranges from joint research units to national projects.  Both universities are members of Association of University Presidents of China and PINE League.  In 2015 and 2016, CUHK joined IEEAC and the China-UK Humanities Alliance for Higher Education, the two important university alliances initiated by Tsinghua for promoting cross-cultural collaboration in humanities and innovation and entrepreneurship education in China.

President of Nanjing Medical University Delivers Lecture at CUHK

 

Professor Shen Hongbing, President of Nanjing Medical University (NMU), led a four-member delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 20 December.  Meetings were arranged with Professor Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Professor Yeoh Eng-kiong, Director of The Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care (SPHPC); and Professor Shelly Tse of SPHPC. Both sides devised plans of collaboration between CUHK and NMU in public heatlh.  Professor Shen also delivered a lecture at SPHPC, exchanged ideas with CUHK students via active interaction. The visit promoted mutual linkage and paved way for further collaboration.

Vice Mayor of Jinan City Visits CUHK

 

Dr. Lu Jiang, Vice Mayor of Jinan City and Director of China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, led a delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 13 December.  The delegates met with Professor Chan Wai-yee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and School Director of Biomedical Sciences; Professor Edwin Chan, Associate Vice-President of CUHK and Professor Lu Gang, School of Biomedical Sciences, and discussed with them plans of collaboration. 

The guests next visited various research facilities of the School of Biomedical Sciences, including the Joint Laboratory on Reproductive Genetics co-established with Shandong University. The visit enhanced the delegates' understanding about CUHK and enhanced linkage between both sides, laying a foundation for future collaboration.

Deputy Party Secretary of Southeast University Leads an Incoming Visit

 

Professor Ren Lijian, Deputy Party Secretary of Southeast University, led a six-member delegation to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 3 December.  The delegates met with CUHK members including Professor Edwin Chan, Associate Vice-President of CUHK and Ms. Agnes Ho, Director of Student Affairs to learn about the University's development and managerial experience of student affairs. 

Professor Chan gave a detailed introduction of the University, especially on the efforts in students' career planning and guidance.  Both sides discussed ways to promote more concrete collaboration.  The visit facilitated the establishment of linkage between the two universities, further broadening the room for collaboration.

Deputy Director of National People's Congress of Henan Province Visits CUHK

 

Professor Xu Jichao, Deputy Director of National People's Congress of Henan Province and Dr. Diao Yuhua, Deputy Director-General of the Provincial Education Department, visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 5 December together with various officials of the provincial government.  The delegation discussed collaboration issues in the field of Chinese  classical learning (CCL) with Professor Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President of CUHK; Professor Lai Pan-chiu, Faculty Dean of Arts and Dr. Tang Lap-kwong, Director of Center of CCL.
