It is expected that under the platform of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance, quality collaboration between CUHK and SYSU will be further expanded to exert influence in the Greater Bay Area.

SYSU has been one of the key partners of CUHK since the establishment of partnership in 1981.  Both universities have carried out a wide range of joint collaborative projects in student exchange, research collaboration and academic programmes.  The CUHK-SYSU Partnership Steering Committee was set up by the two universities in 2008 to forge effective and sustainable relationship.  In 2016, CUHK and SYSU joined hands as the initiating universities in Hong Kong and Guangdong Province to establish the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau University Alliance in collaboration with the University of Macau. The Alliance aims to promote regional development by consolidating resources of elite universities and nurturing talents. The 37 members of the Alliance include 21 universities from the Guangdong Province, 9 universities from Hong Kong, as well as 7 institutions from Macau.
