CUHK Attends the Top Entrepreneurship University Summit
The Top Entrepreneurship University Summit cum President Forum of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance of China was held in Chengdu on June 24. The event attracted delegates from all over the world to join efforts in innovation and entrepreneurship. Prof. Wong Kam-fai, Associate Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Chairman of Committee on Advancement of Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship, attended the Summit on behalf of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and shared his experience in education of entrepreneurship and innovation in the University with other participants.
This activity has quite a considerable scale of participation with representatives from at least 20 tertiary institutions from mainland China, Taiwan, USA, France, Germany, Canada and Korea, alongside officials from the State Ministry of Education and Municiple Government of Chengdu. Participants grasped the chance to exchange ideas on related issues covering technology transfer, globalization and sustainable development, getting to know the updates of the industry. Prof. Wong took part in one of the major round-table discussion entitled Entrepreneurship and Knowledge Transfer in Higher Education.
The Innovation & Entrepreneurship Education Alliance of China was initiated by Tsinghua University to serve as an important platform in implementation of the innovation-driven education among the universities and social enterprises. CUHK accepted the invitation to join the Alliance as a member university in early 2016.

Academician of Academia Sinica Visits CUHK
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) staged the fifth Academia Sinica (AS) Academicians' Visit Programme from June 18 to July 2, 2016. Prof. Ronnie Hsia Po-chia, Academician of the Division of Humanities and Social Sciences of AS and Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of History, Pennsylvania State University, was invited to visit CUHK under the programme and to host the Academicians' Lecture, sharing his research insights with CUHK members and the general public.
Prof. Hsia was warmly received by CUHK senior members including Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Leung Yuen-sang, Dean of Arts; Prof. Lai Pan-chiu, Associate Dean of Arts; Prof. Hsiung Ping-chen, Director of Research Institute for the Humanities; Prof. Ho Pui Yin, Associate Director of Research Institute for the Humanities; and Prof. Poo Mu-chou, Head of Graduate Division of the History Department. CUHK representatives introduced the latest academic and research developments of the University to Prof. Hsia, in particular the developments in humanities and social sciences. Both sides exchanged ideas on academic affairs as well as teaching and learning.
During his visit, Prof. Hsia delivered a public lecture entitled "Empires and Christianity: the Christian Mission in Late Imperial China" at the Lecture Series by Academicians to share his experience and expertise. The lecture attracted an audience which include academics, researchers and students of CUHK and other universities.

CUHK Joins the Alliance of University General Education
The Alliance of University General Education held its second annual meeting on June 24 at Tsinghua University. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) participated in the event as a new member university and signed the alliance constitution with other members. With the theme of combining general education and professional education, the meeting attracted more than 180 participants from above 60 tertiary institutions. Prof. Leung Mei-Yee, Director of University General Education, attended the meeting on behalf of CUHK and gave a talk to share her experience in course restructuring and the connections between general education and professional education with other participants.
The general education programme of CUHK aims to furnish our students with a broad intellectual perspective and to engage them in active reflections on perennial issues. It also helps promote an understanding of Chinese cultural heritage and of other cultural traditions.
The Alliance of University General Education was initiated by Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and Sun Yat-sen University in November 2015 with the aim to enhance the collaboration of general education programmes among universities, laying solid foundation for an innovative development of nurturing talents. The University, as the only member from Hong Kong, signed the Allicance Constitution with other new member universities including Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Wuhan University, Xiamen University and Chongqing University to contribute efforts in general education developments in China.
